How to unlock the Desert Drifter achievement in Star Trek Online - Definitive Guide

To unlock this achievement, you must complete all of the Exploration Accolades on Nimbus III. I recommend being a minimum level 20 before attempting this as all enemies are level 21 or higher.

Below is a video guide for the PC version of the game which I followed to get this, with one difference: I wasn't able to climb and get the "Watching the Nothing" accolade the same way this user was. I had to climb up here:

Then finally jump this gap, which is tricky but it is doable:

From there, just follow the rest of this video (all credit to the original uploader) and you should get the achievement by the end of it.

The accolade is called "Nimbus Survivor." You can keep track of it in your mission journal.

Cheers for this. I would add I had problems getting in the engine following the video. But found if you go on the rocks on the left you can easily jump onto an overhang on the engine first time.

Yeah, I found it best to frantically tap the A button to try and get it working.

One little tip: Sometimes the roll feature helped me to get up when the jump wasn't working.

The guy in the video says you only need to kill 3 Heavy Ranger Hurler Gorn to get the Rock Smasher accolade, but I've been killing them for over 20 minutes now and lost count of how many I've killed and I still don't have the accolade. What am I doing wrong?

Turns out I did get Rock Smasher and didn't notice, since I was playing/pausing the video at the same time I was playing. I later found Rock Smasher under Kill Accolades instead of Exploration Accolades in the game menu, where the rest of them were.

It has been "unlocked" on the Xbox but hasn't actually been awarded if that makes sense. I'll give it a few days.

When you first arrive on Nimbus III (probably while you’re going through the “Wasteland” story arc), an Exploration Accolade called “Nimbus Survivor” will appear in your Mission Journal. (RB to Accolades to see this list). It lists the following hints to earn the achievement:
1) Enter the most popular establishment in Paradise. [Just walk into the bar, which is the second place you are led to during the story arc mission Episode 2: “The Lost City of Paradise” and you’ll receive the accolade “Barfly”]

2) Take a leap off of a natural bridge to ambush Gorn. [You go to this area during Episode 5 of the story arc. While going to the canyon, head to the west, just to the left of the huge natural bridge formation. Looking down the canyon, you’ll see a bunch of cables leading to a smaller natural bridge. Make your way down to this and then jump off to the west. You’ll get the accolade as you’re falling.]

3) Climb the ruins of a destroyed ship near the Orion prison. [I got this during the story arc mission “Blind Men Tell All Tales” and it is for the accolade “Cockpit Observer.” When you reach the part of the mission to assault the Orion stronghold, you’re directed to an area just north-east of Paradise. The stronghold is part of a huge wrecked ship. As you approach the waypoint for the mission, you are diverted to a tunnel off to the right that has been made into a makeshift prison. The “cockpit” is on top of this tunnel. There is a small sand dune to the right of this tunnel you can use to climb on top. From here, head towards the prison, and you’ll reach the cockpit.]

4) Hop across the pillars in the ruins. [“Watch Your Step” accolade. I got this during the story arc mission “The Lost City of Paradise” when Law sends you off to the ruins, which are northwest of the city. You’ll know you’re in the right spot because there are an absurd amount of sand worms in an area surrounded by old buildings. In the north portion of this area is a large building with two sets of pillars in front of it. The set you need to jump across is on the left as you’re looking at the building, and the pillars have four top portions on them. On the left side of the building is a sand dune you can use to get up to the balcony. Perch on the railing of the balcony and make your way to the first pillar. Jump across all four to get the accolade.]

5) Balance yourself along the green tarps on the Paradise City walls. [For “Nimble on Nimbus”, you have to walk along the vertical green tarps on the outer wall of the city. This can be a little tricky. From the main town gate, look left towards the group of people standing around. Behind them you’ll see a flight of stairs going up to the main wall surrounding the entire town. Walk up the stairs and head left all the way to the corner of the wall. (There’s usually an engineer lying here with his head stuck in the wall.) Jump up onto the wall and make your way to a slightly elevated green tarp. This may take a couple tries, but it is possible to jump onto this tarp. From here, make your way along the edge of the building, back towards the main gate, until you spot the vertical beams with green tarps between them. You have to walk along all these beams (There are eight of them) to unlock the accolade. Weirdly, you can walk on the edge of the green tarp… I guess it’s really taut.]

6) Climb to the top of the local, and only, bar in Paradise City. [This also unlocks the “Tipsy Top” Exploration Accolade. Go back to the main town gate and left towards the group of people standing around. Behind them you will see a flight of stairs going up to the main wall surrounding the entire town. Walk up the stairs and take a left U-turn, to the dead end path that leads to a wall with two beams leaning against it. Jump onto the beams and head up to the top. You may have to roll instead of jump to actually get up onto the area just below the roof. To the left you can jump on one of the green tarps jutting out from the wall, and make your way up to the roof. From here, head towards the bar. NOTE: You’ll pass a lookout tower on this roof; this is the one needed for “Watching the Nothing”, the 8th Exploration Accolade. You’re going to have to use the green tarps to jump across the street to get to the building to the right of the bar. From here, head around to the back of the bar, and you’ll find a small ramp that leads up to the actual roof. Now, head to the front of the bar (with the neon sign) to finally get the accolade!]

7) Examine the inside of a destroyed engine near the outskirts of the Orion Stronghold. [The crashed engine is just past the huge wreckage you go through to reach the Orion stronghold. When you pass under the first piece of wreckage (before reaching the prison), turn right and head up the hill next to the large piece of metal (an engine). When you reach the top, turn around and jump inside the engine to unlock the accolade “True Engineer”]

8) Scale one of the lookout posts in Paradise City. [For “Watching the Nothing”, climb back onto the roof you used for “Tipsy Top” (or get this along the way). The lookout tower has two sets of beams supporting it. Hop onto the set that leads all the way up to the top portion of the tower. Again, you may have to roll if the jump function doesn’t cooperate. I didn’t have to get into the tower portion for the accolade to unlock; it was enough to just be standing on the top edge of the lookout post.]

This is easy enough, once you figure out what needs to be done. Basically, you just need to complete all off the Nimbus accolades and the trophy will pop. The full list of the accolades and how to achieve them can be seen here:

Nimbus 3 is an open world area that you go to in the story arc Wasteland or the Klingon Civil War mission Partisans. The Klingon Civil War story arc does not have any achievements tied to it. Wasteland is required for an achievement so you can get this accolade then, or you can just go to Nimbus 3 at any time with any character. The Nimbus System is located in the Hobus Sector (Its way at the top of the sector space map). All of the accolades that are required for the achievement are exploration based and do not require combat, but there are a lot of enemies out in the world so you will end up fighting things.

The achievement is for earning the accolade Nimbus Survivor which requires earning 8 different exploration accolades. Nimbus Survivor can be found in the Exploraction Accolade section of accolades once you have earned one of the required accolades. The STO wiki does not have a good map like it does for the other exploration accolades. Instead I will link a youtube video of someone earning all of the accolades to assist while you are doing this. This video is not mine but it was very helpful for me:

  • Nimbus Survivor
    • Barfly: Walk into the Paradise City bar
    • Watching the Nothing: When you spawn into the zone you will be outside the city gates to Paradise City. Go through the gates and to the right. Climb the stairs and walk along the wall to the far right corner of the city (far left corner if you are facing the desert). You can jump on the railing here, and then jump onto the roof. There is a pretty obvious path to follow as you run across the roofs and awnings of the buildings. You will work your way towards the roof of the bar. On one of the buildings that is close to the entrance to the city there is a large wooden watch tower. you can run up one of the support beams of the watcher tower. the accolade will pop when you jump in the watch tower box.
    • Tipsy Top: Starting at the same point as Watching the Nothing you need to get to the top of the Nimbus bar. There is only one path to follow. It requires that you work your way around the back of the bar (from the roofs) to climb up to the top of it. The accolade pops when you stand at the front of the roof of the bar.
    • Nimble on Nimbus: Start at the same point as Watching the Nothing. You do not have to go very far for this one. On the first brown roof you jump on there is an awning that is connected to the roof above it. It requires a bit of precision but you can jump on the support beam for the awning, jump to the awning, and then to the roof. Go back to where you are facing the desert. There is a wall of green tarps that surround the wall. You can jump onto the top of the tarps. Carefully walk all the way to the edge of the tarps facing the Paradise City entrance. The accolade will pop at the very end of the final tarp.
    • Watch Your Step: This is located in the ruins full of sandworms on the left side of the desert map. In the very back of the ruins there are a series of pillars that are close together that are near a building. You can climb up the sand slope to get to the building. Jump onto the railing of the building and walk towards the pillars. You can jump across each of the pillars. The accolade will pop when you get to the last pillar.
    • True Engineer: This is located in the Orion base that is located in the north west of the desert map. The base is located in one giant wrecked ship. When you enter the Orion base you have to fight your way up the winding path through the mountain. As you walk through the entrance to the Orion base on the right you will see a large narrow wrecked ship engine that is sloped at an angle you can easily run up. At the top of the engine you can jump inside of the hole and the accolade will pop.
    • Cockpit Observer: Near the engine for True Engineer there is an entrance through a large piece of wrecked ship that leads to the Orion prison. You can climb up the rocks to the right of this entrance to get to the top of the ship wreck. The accolade pops when you stand on a platform over the entrance.
    • Gorn Ambusher: The Gorn Canyon is located on the right of the desert map. As you run towards the Gorn Canyon you will see a giant rock structure that stretches across the whole canyon. to the left of that structure you can slide down the canyon and you will see a smaller stone bridge that goes across the canyon. The accolade pops when you jump off the small stone bridge into the canyon.

As you complete tasks on Nimbus, the entire map will open. But to get the trophy you need to visit certain locations. Watch the video, repeat, get the trophy)
