Walker defender
Destroy a Y-wing in Walker Assault
How to unlock the Walker defender achievement in STAR WARS Battlefront - Definitive Guide
Having trouble with the ion torpedo? Suck at flying TIE Fighters? This solution is for you!
Load up Walker Assault and search for Outpost Beta (Hoth from the beta). As soon as you spawn sprint as fast as you can up the left side of the map trying to stay out of sight. Head inside the door that is before the hangar door. Go down the hallway, hang a right, go out the hangar door and hop in the DF-9 turret. It's the one where your soldier is enclosed, NOT the dish turret. Lay low until the Y-Wings attack, and take them out in one single shot. They come in from the left and fly in the same path over and over. So easy a Stormtrooper could do it.

Great guide! Can also easily be done on the Tatooine map. I got some footage of how I got it (twice in a row) in case people see how this would works or where to get it :)

I tried all the other solutions with Tie fighter, Pulse canon & stationary gun but I wasn't able to pull it off. The way I unlocked this achievement was by using a AT-ST! Very easy!
- I do advise to play the Outpost Beta map, you'll have a great visibility to see the Y-wing approaching the walker.
- I did this on the first Y-wing attack (1st stage of the game).
- Hang back with your AT-ST behind the LEFT Walker
- As soon as the Y-wing approach the walker start firing with just a little in front of it.
** A great tip from MANIAC92182; "ion torpedo worked. one shot" **
Easy as hell. Still good luck getting the AT-ST in time ;)

Two words to make this much easier for EVERYONE....Pulse Cannon.
Couldn't find the stationary gun to line up the shot correctly and the game was almost over so I whipped out the pulse cannon merely to take a angry shot, and tada! I got lucky as hell basically aiming and shooting out of anger but lining up the tragectory and shooting should prove easy enough. Good luck!

If you can grab an AT-ST this is pretty straightforward. Sit just behind the AT-AT in your AT-ST and then wait for the Y-Wings to fly in. I got this using the walker's guns and firing just in front of the Y-Wing.
The important part is knowing the flight path of the Y-Wings. If you know the direction they are coming in it helps no end, and you can pick this up easily enough on any map by just watching them on each run. The video demonstrates this.
What it also shows is that you need quite a few things to come together. In my opinion, using the AT-ST is the easiest way to get the achievement but you need the token to spawn, you to grab it, get to the right position and also have the Y-Wings making their runs. So it takes a bit of luck but can be done. I wasn't even trying for the achievement when I got it, just got lucky with everything coming together.

Not really a solution, but just an FYI for people:
I am not certain why, but it seems any of the DLC maps (Bespin and Scariff specifically) do not count for this achievement.
I tried to kill two birds and get this done in between Sabotage and Infiltration games, and no matter what I used (Ion Torpedo, Pulse Cannon, AT-ST) destroying the Y-Wings did not pop the achievement.
I went back to the base game, started a game of Walker Assault and hit a Y-Wing with an ion torpedo. Achievement popped.
In short: don't try to get this done in the DLC, because it may not work.

This is a bit of a nightmare to be honest. If you visit the partner site trueachievements.com there are other tips and guides but here's mine:
Load up a game of walker assault, please note that this trophy is only achievable whilst playing on the imperial team.
Once the rebel forces have activated their uplinks, they will send in the Y-wings to bomb the AT-AT's. This is your ONLY window to gain the trophy.
There are a variety of ways I've read about to gain this one but my method was:
Don't worry about the opposition, kill if required but spend your time hunting around for a aircraft power-up. Once you've collected it you only have a 12 second window to call in the TIE fighter before you loose the ability so call in the air support straight away.
You'll now be flying the TIE fighter and the idea is to stay alive in the skies until the rebels have activated their uplinks. Naturally this is dependent on the rebel players not being complete potato aiming idiots and assuming they CAN activate them.
Once all are active you'll get a message saying that the Y-wings are incoming. Unless you spot them straight away I'd recommend trying to identify and memorize which direction they appear from. I expected there to be LOADS but in fact there were only between 3-4 I think from memory. They will appear on the map, swoop in, drop a bomb... and feck off... they are NOT around for long so your window is short and your accuracy MUST be high.
Try to learn where they spawn from on the map and start from a position in which you'll be chasing them, NOT flying straight towards them. If they fly past you then you'll waste all your time turning and locking on by which time they'll be gone.
Tips:
Lower your air speed by holding , this will divert power into your weapons making them more powerful and increasing your agility and turning circle allowing for an easier lock on.
Hold to lock on and try to keep your recital trained on the Y -wing as accurately as possible, once you're locked on let a homing missile go and then STRAIGHT away blast him with your primary weapons on the off chance that the missile doesn't take him out. The missile may not be enough anyway so pump him full of laser!
I would recommend this on a nice open level like Hoth.
People have also used the ION torpedo to take them out but personally I found that very difficult.
You could also try a turret gun (the "Pill-box" type so you're protected, not the dish) but that will rely too much on your accuracy.
Again this is a little luck based as you have to hope that you can find a TIE fighter pickup BEFORE the bombers come in, and also that you don't get shot out of the sky whilst you're waiting for them.
Took me many attempts but it's doable with a little patience.
Good Luck!

Just a quick note to add to this one:
I don't think this trophy is possible on Endor because of the enclosed map. I still haven't found a power up for an aircraft so I don't think you're able to it on this one so if you're desperate for the trophy, when you're selecting Walker Assault from the menu hit which will allow you to choose which map you compete on.

Good tips. I was lucky to get an Y-wing down with the anti-air-missile of the AT-ST.

I found a easy way to get this. I got in a turret and started firing on the y-wings. I was able to shoot the first one down to my surprise! The second was even easier to shoot down. I recorded the whole thing and you can see it in the video below. This was btw on Tatooine after the second uplinks.
Here's a guide that I made. Very easy should only take a couple of attempts and can be done on all the maps.
