How to unlock the The Trap is Set achievement in STAR WARS: Squadrons - Definitive Guide
You will need to unlock and equip the Czerka (Republic) or Sienar (Empire) Seeker Mines with a component point. The X-Wing and the TIE/LN are the only ships that can't use them.
I got this is Fleet Battles vs. AI. I chose an A-Wing for its maneuverability and speed, but use what you feel most comfortable with. My only goal for the match was to fly around to where enemies clustered and drop the mines. I had equal success damaging enemies (the mine will blink yellow or red when it has a target) during the offense and defense segments, and popped the achievement 3/4ths of the way through the match on my first try.

I got this in a Dogfight match where I alternated between my up-engined TIE Bomber and the new TIE Defender. A-Wing drivers like to give chase to either, trying to get in close with their short-range Rapid Fire Cannon. So I picked up some kills with the Seeker Mines, which is not necessary for the trophy (which only requires you to inflict damage) but still kind of nice.
My builds:
TIE Bomber - Standard Lasers, Seeker Mine, Multi-Lock Missile, Sensor Jammer, Reinforced Hull, Unstable Engine.
It does handle like a bit of a pig. But instead of throttling back for tighter turns, focus on maintaining speed with power diverted to engines and going for opportunity targets as a kind of missile boat, shunting excess power to weapons before lining up a kill shot with the lasers. When you pick up a tail, or simply know there’s an enemy somewhere on your six o’clock, dump a mine. The refresh is not too shabby.
TIE Defender - Standard Lasers, Seeker Mine, APS, Sensor Jammer, Dampener Hull, Ray Shield, Standard Engines.
Note that Ray Shield is a bit of a risk, but Rebel scum tend to prefer using ion missiles against the TIE Defender, anyway. Sensor Jammer and Dampener Hull help defend against missiles long enough to put some work in. And again, those A-Wings sure like to give chase.
With both builds, the Standard Lasers are merely personal preference. I don’t like the trade-offs on other main armaments, but that’s just me. Upgrade points are needed for these builds, but you can level up and earn these even in the Fleet Battles vs. AI, if you don’t feel like wading into Dogfight straight away with default parts.
Also, if you find yourself on a team that is just stomping a Dagobah-sized mudhole in the treasonous Rebels and their so-called New Republic, you might not pick up enough enemy fighters on your tail to get this trophy on that go-around. In that case, at least you pick up a win towards Dogfight match victories.

Modification on the interceptor.

This trophy can be obtained in solo flotilla battles with AI. Not in ranked matches. Not in ranked matches. The easiest to find are unnamed fighters, as they have a linear flight path. Overtake them and put a mine in front of your nose.
