How to unlock the Lightning Shield Mastery achievement in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Definitive Guide

To speed this strategy up even further, do as Lechig stated already, but only kill everyone in the first room you go into (With the Tie Fighters hanging on the roof). Then hit save, change your costume and it will restart you back down the hall from this first room. Each run through this first room should net you atleast 35+ Kills with the Lightning Shield.

The way that worked well for me was:

Force Push open the doors and then charge up your lightning shield before entering, as there are usually 2 Storm Troopers on the walkway in front of you. Run down to the far end on the walkway and grab the Sith Holocron (Unlimited Energy). Jump down to the right and run a few feet from the group of Rebel's standing by the door you have to open after defeating all the enemies.

Recharge your Lightning Shield and this should net you about 8 kills on the Rebels. Then run towards the middle of the room and towards the lift where the Storm Troopers will be coming up from. You should still have Unlimited Energy for a few more seconds and can charge up one more shield before the Troopers come up the lift. After you kill the 8 Troopers who came up the lift, stay on top of the lift and wait for your force to charge up if necessary because the lift will not close or rise up again with you standing on it.

After your force is full, step to anyside (one jump length away or a little more) and after about 4-5 seconds after the floor closes up, another 8 Storm Troopers will be sent up the lift. You'll get used to the pattern and can charge up your Lightning Shield at the right time to jump down and run along the middle of the Troopers, killing all 8 within seconds. There should be normally about 3 sets of 8 Storm Troopers coming up the lift.

And remember, after you kill the storm troopers on the lift, stay on the lift until your force is recharged, if you move away from the lift, more troopers will be sent up and you won't have any force to use on them and risk the chance of deflecting their blasters back at them and killing them before you can kill them with the lightning shield.

This technique should net you atleast 35 kills with the lightning shield on each pass (3 minutes or so).

And just to be sure, SAVE after killing everyone in this first room, change costumes and repeat, this technique will work, It worked for me and very quickly, as you can net up to 50 on each pass.

Additional Note, as you've probably noticed, you don't seem to deflect when you are in the air, so jump everywhere and try not to walk around, as you will waste kills on blaster deflections and not your target of Lightning Shield kills.

If you have the Jedi Temple DLC, it's even easier -- the Padawan training room has infinitely-respawning droids.

Run around on the lower level until your Force power recharges. Then jump to the balcony, charge up the lightning shield, and jump down and get close to some enemies. Lather, rinse, repeat.

You kind of have to do it this way, because if you try to charge up your shield close to an enemy, their attacks can cancel out your charging, leaving you with just a shield that doesn't shoot out lightning, and with your Force energy depleted. Running around on the ground lures the droids to the bottom, so the balcony should be clear for a couple seconds when you jump up there.

I wouldn't buy the DLC just for this achievement (the mission is really, really short for the price), but if you already have it, might as well use it...

Awesome advice! Made it 10x easier!! Just two things to add that may help. When I tried for this achievement I was tapping the Y button to get my Lighting shield up. The best thing to do is hold down the Y button until your force powers are depleted. The 2nd thing you can do to prevent deflecting blaster fire is go into the options force upgrades and remove all points in Defense Mastery. your choice :) Thanks again!!

Just to add, it's easier if you have level three and as someone said, to hold down Y till your force bar depletes.

Can I add one thing if I may -

Follow this guide exactly, it's spot on.

But, first charge your lightning shield right at the start. There are 5 droids between the starting point and the doors you need to force push open. These droids count.

So do LS, kill 5 droids, force push open door, follow above guide.

I wasn't sure if they would count, but I killed them every run just in case, and the achievment popped on one of the droids, so I know they count. 5 extra per run will add up.

Good guide btw.

I used this guide for EVERY kill X enemies with Y skill achievements and it worked extremely well.

Force repulse was one that worked alot better here than on Vader's stage. It's very funny to watch all eight storm troopers fly away and the left of your screen to fill with text.

Force push also worked well here, but not as well as repulse. Trow lightsaber was decent, and lightning was okay. Grappling took awhile, but worked in only two or three passes as I sprinkled in some grapples when my force was recharging. Areal combos also only took two or three passes. Had close to two million force points when I was done with all of the achievements, now I only need to find the holocrons.

I would definitely recommend this stage for Force Repulse rather than Vader. The others may work better on his stage but I decided to do this on my sith master file (after changing it to apprentice) since I already had several kills with each skill and thus I could not load Vaders stage.

I forgot to read the whole "SAVE" part, so I ended up grinding out about 400 kills before I realized what I was doing wrong. Now I feel dumb...

Additional thing that helps: Make sure you don't have any points in defence mastery. This is the skill that causes blaster reflection.

If you're an idiot like me and has owned this game for over 6 years and never knew how to use the lightning shield, you press LB + Hold Y. Just thought I'd leave that out for anyone who was dumb like I was. Thanks for the help also.

I been doing this forever and without even using the costume but i save and then restart but now using the costume after saving. I use the lightning shield and then attack them so they get lightning on them but i kill them in one hit and doesnt it voide this as i kill them with the saber. I see no other way to kill them with the lightning shield. I am just a bit puzzled because i dont even have 100 kills after spending a lot of time on this annoying thing.

It seems gettings hit while charging the shield causes it to be less (completely?) ineffective against enemies.

I been stuck doing this for literally all day from 7am to 3am. I think I'm just dumb... I got the 100 kills achievement but for some reason I can't unlock the 500 kills with the lightning shield. I don't understand why it's not working. I know how to do it, I literally got the 100 achievement earlier but I can't get the 500 one. This is killing me.

Great guide! My faults are not to blame you at all, I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong that's not unlocking the achievement.

I did this achievement today, and I must say that Force Lighting is the most overpowered Force Power against Stormtroopers ever! I was amused to see them die like flies by my hand. Doesn't take long to net :)

Confirmed working today.

-Make sure you have the "Sigil" lightsaber crystal equipped as it increases damage done by lightning attacks.
-I suggest resetting your force upgrades and repurchasing so that you have none invested in the deflection and reflection of phaz3rs.
-Setting the difficulty to "Apprentice" results in much quicker kills (note: killing the rebels does NOT stop waves of Storm Troopers, go ahead and snag that unlt'd energy then jump down-- eliminating the rebels first means you don't have to compete for kills)
-Lavindather is correct about the droids en route to the first hangar-- but I believe there may be six of them.

This is one case where the DLC is your friend, specifically the Jedi Temple DLC. The first part of the level has you landing on a large platform FULL of basic Stormtroopers, and after dealing with them more Stormtroopers (and one Purge Trooper) appear, ALL of them are vulnerable to a fully charged Lightning Shield. That's how I unlocked this Achievement; I started a new game of the Jedi Temple DLC on the Sith Apprentice difficulty and after letting the Lightning Shield kill everything I saved then jumped off the platform, respawned at the first checkpoint, and kept repeating this over and over until it finally unlocked.

Dash behind one of the shields and charge up there. Or just hit them with a basic Force Lightning shock and their jetpacks instantly malfunction.

Worked fine for me. Took about 5 run throughs for the 100 kill achievement, and 22 for the 500 kill. Thanks.

There are 2 force powers that can not be farmed in the prologue:

Force Lightning
Lightning Shield

With Force Lightning I unlocked it by the end of my Sith Master Difficulty run. If you are short any by the end of the game, just replay the first level and spam that ability.

Lightning Shield is a bit trickier, to be honest. If you have the Jedi Temple DLC, then this will take you ~45 minutes (at most). If you don't then it will take you a bit longer roll.

WITH DLC: The Jedi Temple has an area with an unlimited enemy spawn - the droid training room. Playing this on easy, and getting to the room will take a few minutes (max). When you reach the room, and the animation ends (droids spawning, doors shutting, etc) start taking out the lightsaber droid spawns. These guys are annoying and will mess up your rhythm rather than give you kills. You want the droid force users (their spawns are on the second level wink) only.

Also, please make certain that you have this force power fully upgraded for maximum effectiveness.

Once the droid force users are the only enemies spawning, stand underneath one of the spawn points. Enemies will jump down from the second floor (maximum of 4 at a time). Charge you lightning shield, and when all four are in the room release it. Lightning will arc out of the shield killing all four before the ability ends. Then you just rinse and repeat.

I had about ~10 to 20 seconds for every 4 enemies, so worst case I was looking at 12 enemies a minutes.

12 (enemies) x 45 (mins) = 540

WITHOUT DLC: I found that the first area (TIE Fighter bay) on the first mission was a great place to knock out this trophy (if one doesn't have the DLC wink). There is a lift in the room that will bring a group of storm troopers into the center of the room...3 times. Each group has ~8 to 10 enemies, however you need to take out Kota's men or they will just gun them down before you can farm the troopers roll.

This method seems like it may save time (24 to 30 kills minimum with Lightning Shield?!? clap) however if you want to effectively farm this location you need to continually save, then restart at checkpoint when the enemies are defeated. Loading screens, getting back to the room, etc really add time to this method.

Of course, you could just run through the level taking everyone out with Lightning Shield as well, and you would probably have this trophy done in 5 or 6 runs (still taking awhile with a run being around 20 minutes roll).

To use this power hold and then press and hold until you stop charging and your power bar goes yellow. This power unlocks for Starkiller after level “Cloud City.” This achievement must be done with Starkiller. You must upgrade this power to at least level two because at level one lightning does not arc out from it. At levels two and three lightning will arc off of the shield and kill nearby enemies. Do not use your lightsaber for these kills. Again for this achievement I recommend replaying TIE factory on apprentice difficulty over and over until it unlocks. You’ll need to kill 500 enemies this way for the achievement.

You cannot do this in the prologue as Vader, as he lacks the necessary moves. However, these are easy enough to get by playing multiple runs through the first non-prologue level over and over on Apprentice difficulty.
Note: You should activate a “full” Lightning Shield, when going for Lightning Shield kills. To do this, press and hold L2, then press and hold triangle until your entire force bar is drained. Now, your shield will last much longer and it will actively shock anybody in range. Also, if you melee someone while in Lightning Shield, those kills will count towards your total.
