How to unlock the Explorer achievement in Starlink: Battle for Atlas - Definitive Guide

There are three entries under Discovered that count toward this achievement and the first one counts toward the
Starlink: Battle for AtlasDolittleThe Dolittle achievement in Starlink: Battle for Atlas worth 98 pointsDiscover every animal species in Atlas
achievement. The various animal Species on the planet need to be scanned. Sites are found by exploring, usually the name of the place shows up as you enter the area. Samples are plants and things like that which can be pulled with your ship to collect them and trade them to allies. You can get quests to find one from Workshops and Outposts. If they offer a quest for something you already have, just press B and try again.

Just unlocked this on PS4 and your description is incorrect. You do not have to do any of the spires, ruins, wrecks or wonders for this. You only need to complete the items under the "discovered" section--species, sites and samples.

I was missing a sample that was only available after hitting one of the big animals a few times. I believe this is true in most planets. Also, you can get quests to get these from Outposts, worth a try.

Samples is the hard one. Usually you will find three plants to pick up, that there are a lot of, and you'll easily see just flying around. But one you won't be able to find unless you ask an Observatory to assign you a task, and keep denying until you get it. Then the last item will be found by shooting one of the animals. It will drop it, sometimes as a request from an Observatory, but usually you just have to do it yourself.

Look in the main menu under "Collection" > "Atlas Discoveries" and you'll see that each planet has between 13 and 15 "discoveries". These are broadly divided into categories:

  • Places of interest - as you uncover these on the map, they'll be filled in. You can find them yourself or build Observatories to unlock the map for you.
  • Animals - see Dolittle (25G). There are three animal species ("fauna") on each planet; fully scan each of them.
  • Plants, or "flora" - each planet has three types, two very common ones that can be plucked almost anywhere, and one which you'll need to accept a mission from an Observatory or Workshop to locate.
  • An item that will drop from one of the animal species if you attack it - for example, the Sandworm Scale on Kirite or Sunstrider Feather on Haven. Observatory/Workshop missions are available for these to guide you if you're having trouble - look for ones named "Xenobiology".
  • The Warden Relic location (see Memory of the Wardens (25G)), marked with a pyramid icon on your map.
  • Environmental hazards on some planets - Prickle Burrs on Haven, Bile Bombs on Vylus. You'll almost certainly run into one of these while exploring.
You only need to get all Discoveries on one planet to unlock this achievement.

I recommend leaving it until the very end, and combining it with the “Dolittle” trophy. Just look at the planet on which you will have the most discoveries. This can be done on the system map, most likely this will be the planet on which you received the “Cartographer” trophy. This planet will most likely be missing 1-2 items. In the collection you can see what is missing. Usually this will be some kind of “biological” object, since all the others are different areas. Each planet has two simple objects scattered around the map and are easy to find. And two rare objects, one is some kind of plant or egg, usually they lie on the tops of mountains. The easiest way to find such an object is to first look at what it looks like in the collection, and then request a task at the observatory until you are given a task to find such a plant. Then follow the marker.

The second rare object is less clear, it is some part of an animal. Scale, tusk, etc. In the collection, such objects are always in the penultimate place in the section of each planet. Usually, looking at this item in a collection, you can easily determine from whom it falls. But if it doesn’t work out, go to the workshop and go through the tasks there, one of them will be the task of collecting and delivering such a component to the workshop. Then fly along the sign, find the desired animal and shoot at it. After several shots, the component you need will drop out; as soon as you pick it up, it will be marked in the collection.
