State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition

There are a total of ten plague hearts around the map. Some will be part of missions. Most of them will be on your own.

You can find them by using the command center, or spot them with billboards, but frankly as you drive around, you'll find them rather easily near where lots of plague zombies roam.

There is a rather straightforward method to destroying them, which surprised me because I dreaded them at first.

First, have a follower. Second, thin out as many zombies, hordes, and freaks near the heart as you can. This can be by sneaking around the building, or by brute force with your truck. Regardless, kill as many zeds as possible before you attack the heart.

You'll need your normal meds and stamina, but the key is molotovs and soda bombs. Bring at least 9 molotovs with you.

When you go into the building, you shouldn't see any other zombies. If you do, take them out. Then line yourself up and spam ALL your molotovs st the heart at once. Follow it up with the soda bombs, and then unload your gun into it. The molotovs do an incredible amount of damage to a heart.

Since killing a heart kills all the plague zombies, the building will likely be clear for you to search. By the time I got toward my last few hearts, I wasn't even using any meds or stamina since they went down so quickly.

I found the Molotov to be too weak by themselves. so what I started doing was building pipe bombs in the workshop, cost some parts and ammo and needs power to build (portable generator mod), I would throw pipe bombs first usually 3 and if it's still alive quickly throw the Molotovs as needed before the red zeds rush you. If you have a follower make sure to keep a good distance from heart or they will start to melee it and prevent you from bombarding at will. I found the hearts intimidating at first but once I started this method i find them almost too easy to destroy now. I use most my fuel for gas cans so that's another reason I prefer pipe bombs instead and molotovs seem rather common to find while scavenging and or trading for at enclaves.

Note that the first few hearts you kill Molotovs are probably the easiest to use but after that they get harder to kill and by then you should be able to build plenty of pipe bombs.

To get the Total Eclipse achievement in State of Decay 2, do the following:

You'll need to destroy all ten plague hearts in your region. You can find them in several ways. Sometimes helping other enclaves will mean you're helping them clear these out. You can also use your Influence to locate a plague heart in the Influence/Multiplayer menu. You can also, naturally, come upon them in your normal roaming of the world.

Always bring a car and lots of decoys and at least a few melee weapons. Ideally you'll use bombs, molotovs, and guns, but with enough decoys and a durable vehicle these can be done with relative ease.

To add on to the other solutions, if you have a decent community built up, you will probably have a good amount of resources. If you have an AK47 or the 5.56mm Light machine gun with a 100 round clip. If you have this, you can simply place a boombox outside, (or just kill everything) and then just run in, spray ~40 bullets at the plague heart, and it will be destroyed before any newly spawned zombies can even attack you. Every zombie in the area dies when you destroy a plague heart, so don't worry about getting "sandwiched" after destroying it.

EDIT:
And on top of that, if you have a .50 BMG weapon, preferably the B50FG, you can take out a plague heart in just THREE shots!

When I took down the final plague heart, it was actually much simpler than I thought it would be.

First: clear zombies from surrounding area
Second: place boombox outside front door
Third: place 1 C4 charge next to heart

After placing the charge, retreat to front door, then activate C4 and boombox. Once C4 goes off, three or four shots from the shotgun finished off the heart (which killed the attacking plague zombies). Much easier than I anticipated. Likely the boombox wasn't necessary.
