I launched it about four car lengths and nothing happened. My truck got tumped over in the process, so I went and got another vehicle. Then I started driving back to where the soda can landed to figure out what my next move would be. When I got near the can, it unlocked.

At the very beginning of the dlc,after you've killed the group of zombies, you hop in a vehicle with your two ally npcs. Instead of going left towards your mission objective, take the very first on ramp on the right. One of the giant energy drink cans will be on your left. Just turn around and ram it. If it doesn't fly far enough, the achievement wont pop, but you can keep pushing it down the road with your vehicle until it does.
