How to unlock the Gun Thugs achievement in State of Decay - Definitive Guide

This achievement is awarded by completing the Wilkerson brothers' storyline. A lot of players have had problems with the missions not showing up so here's an in-depth walkthrough.

For some stupid reason when i got to the last mission, Neutral Observer, I decided not to take the survivors to the Wilkersons! Does this mean I have made the achievement unobtainable and have to start again?

I did the same mistake on my first playthrough, and unfortunately yes, it means you'll have to start a new game. I guess the compassion got the best of both of us, hah! See it as a second chance to fix all the things that went wrong on your first playthrough! Because something did go wrong, right? Right? ;)

The missions were not popping up for me after restarting the game and trying everything else. Then I just decided to drive all around the map (very far) and they popped up again. Definitely vicinity based.

Glad they showed up! Do you have an idea of how long you waited before doing the drive-arounds? Because it can sometimes take a couple of in-game days between the missions to show up. If it was a lot more than that, it probably is vicinity-based.

I waited at least a week.

I'd say that's definite proof that it's vicinity-based then, thanks! Which of the missions was it?

Yeah vicinity-based...or just driving around based. It was after the 1st one, The Old Farmhouse. Now I am on the 4th mission, and no missions popped up for me yesterday when I played (1-2 hours of playing). I am about to go drive around some more and hope the next mission pops up lol.

Can you please specify, what exactly "five crates of ammo" does mean? Five bullets, five inventory slots filled fully with ammo, or five ammo stacks? Although the latter is impossible to carry in one backpack...

IIRC, Press UP on your D-pad, then go to your home base menu, and check the number next to the bullet icon. That shows how many ammo resources your home base currently has.

Sorry, I have not mentioned that I worry about the Nervous Survivor mission and I want to clarify what is required at the ending.

I understand that, what I just described is how you check if you fulfill the requirements. I added it to the solution so there should be no further confusion!

Okay, thanks. I have collected the required ammo and I am waiting to trigger this mission

*NOTE*
I can confirm as of today (March 5, 2016) that you DO NOT need to do mission 1 (The Old Farmhouse - Get The Doc) on this list in order to get this achievement. I neglected both Ed and the Doc in my first play through and thought I missed my chance for this achievement, but a little while later I still got the call for mission 2 on the above list (Accusations). I completed missions 2-6 as mentioned in the above solution and got the achievement even though Ed died and I never helped the Doc. I don't know if this was fixed in an update or what, but if Ed dies in your play through, don't give up hope for getting this achievement because it's still possible. Follow the guidelines in the solution above and you'll get it.

That's great news, so you mean you didn't have to do that mission at all? The remaining missions still triggered? I heard a rumor a while back that what happened post-patch was that other random members of your team could get sick in Ed's stead, thereby enabling the storyline. But I never managed to get confirmation on it. I would still like to have a few more confirmations that it's not crucial before I add it definitely to the solution though, just so I know it wasn't just a temporary glitch.

You should update it!

I thought the mission would not disappear. I overlooked that it was part of saving ed in time. So Ed died on me. Not long after I got the 2nd mission just now called accusations.

So you don't need to do the first mission!

I wouldn't say that two playthroughs is absolute confirmation, especially considering the randonmness of the game. But I added your information to the solution, thanks!

I just got the achievement! I never did the first one! I am sure it was not a coincidence.

Thanks for updating it! :)

So I'm guessing you can't get this if the stranger you give a ride to dies before you pay off his debt? The game screwed me in a whole new way by putting the stranger's group in a random broken down house, instead of a farm house. It collapsed after 12 hours offline. I loaded up a back-up save and it immediately collapsed as I loaded up the game again. So weird that it put him in a doomed enclave location

This achievement is from one of the side quests available, involves some brothers at the top right of the map who live on a farm.

The following information will contain spoilers.

When you get your first real home base Ed will be injured and eventually you'll get a mission to find a doctor, this mission will introduce you to the Wilkerson brothers, just keep doing every mission that shows up for them.

The achievement popped for me after helping them with some sort of trade with another group of survivors, someone showed up at my base to ask me to go along. It's also worth noting you can go to their farm and claim a lovely M60 Light Machine Gun from their storage for 100 influence, holds like 100 bullets so don't forget to go back when the achievement pops.

Random tip : The M60 is heavy, to save time just switch character when you pick it up and switch back to the guy carrying the LMG and he will teleport from the Wilkersons farm to wherever your home base is located. Switch characters via up on the dpad.

Hello. I already have this achievement (I did the trade) but my friend does not. This might be because he told other survivors to stay away from the Wilkersons (impeding their trust). I cannot confirm if this effects the achievement because of it, but I am just warning any other people attempting this (do the trade).

I put off doing the mission to find the doc & now Ed died, does that mean I can't do the Wilkerson's missions?

I didn't get the Doc either but the Wilkerson mission did eventually show up; it will mean however it will take longer to earn their trust

Just went to the farm for the mission Nervous Stranger or something like that. I didnt have 5 cases of ammo for him and it said mission failed. Can I still get this achievement or do I need to start over?

I couldnt get the next mission to appear so I started the game over. I thought it was easy the first time but now it is too easy as I know what to do.

I was worried i would miss the side quests mainly because i did everything but the marked missions first. If you fail the missions im not even sure if you will get more for them but depends how far you are in your playthrough, if you don't mind starting again its pretty easy to push along the story missions quickly, i had to play up to where the guy gets sick or whatever to get the achievement for putting a survivor down.

When i got the achievements for the side quests the missions i needed to do never seemed to disappear. They were more like story related side missions when compared to the actual random events / little missions.

So this took me ages to get due to the quests never seeming to show up.

I genuinely thought I had missed this achievement since for the last two weeks I have only had my own enclave missions showing up and them BAM out of nowhere I finally get a mission involving these guys.

My advice is to do EVERY SINGLE Wilkerson based mission in order to make sure that you get this. They have quite a few missions the first they have involves defending their home from several hordes and a big un. The rest are much easier to handle compared and alot of it is trade related stuff.

Now there is one quest where you must give them ammo for another survivor to pay off his debt for this you need 5 crates of ammo. Now I only mention this because I heard that if you do not have the ammo then you fail the mission and that is it, you miss the chance to earn it. So yes keep ammo stocked high just incase you run into that mission it will be called "nervous survivor" and you will have met him once before when the Wilkersons made you drop him off at home.

Video below shows their final mission its also the easiest they give out. Simply drop off the other group at the wilkersons meeting point and then leave.

You can also deny donating the five ammo crates, the succeeding missions will still come. Not having enough ammo and trying to donate them will fail the mission and stop any succeeding missions though.

Handy piece of information, I gave them the ammo just to be sure.

so about how long is it between the ammo mission and the next one? I did the ammo one fine, but have been waiting for the next mission for a very long time

Well I waited less then an hour but this game is incredibly random so I cannot promise anything. It literally took me two weeks to get the ammo mission and between then I just enclave missions over and over. So yeah the game is either buggy or loves making us wait.

I declined giving them ammo and I failed. I'll have to get this on another play through. Should've read this first..

Yeah this game is very odd with the quests and in some you can fail just due to not having certain supplies. Which sucks.

The Wilkersons missions seems to be somewhat linked to main story progression, so maybe you haven't progressed far enough? I think you have to have completed at least a few story missions in the second town/village you visit (after the church village) for the last mission to come up. Also, some missions seem to trigger based on vicinity, so try doing a few missions up in the first village, or maybe just make a few scavenge runs up there. Random and buggy is just the start of it when it comes to these missions...

IMPORTANT!

ANOTHER THING THAT MAY MAKE YOU MISS THIS ACHIEVEMENT!

So, I was clearing some infestations for the other achievement, and where those survivors you need to give ammo there is another house. Both of those houses were infestations, I cleared their house without knowing and later in the game completed the mission where you escort him home. There was still that infestation near their house. While waiting for the ammo mission to show up I noticed that their map marker is missing. I went there and their house became an infestation! So be sure to clear those infestations before the escort mission. The zombies from the barn infested their house. There might be two infestations in the barn, so look out.

Summary: Before completing the escort mission, make sure all infestations near their "future" house are cleared.

Story related. As you progress through the Wilkerson's part of the quest/story you'll eventually be tasked with acting as the neutral party for an arms dealer between the Wilkersons and another community. Head to the rendezvous to pick up the other people, then bring them to the Jurassic Park place East of there to finish the deal. Oddly enough you end up leaving them there, so who knows what happens to them, but at least you get an achievement.

Note: You can miss this achievement if you listen to Lily when she asks you to stop working with the Wilkersons. Ignore and complete their quest chain.
