How to unlock the Land Usage achievement in State of Decay - Definitive Guide

NOTE: Earlier I reported that you did not need to build a facility if it came with a base. However, this has been reported as false. I was pretty sure I had never built a library myself when my achievement popped, but I must have been wrong. Apologies for any confusion or frustration this may have caused!
~Thanks to Cornerscout for pointing this out!

Sometimes when you move to a new home base, there are facilities that you can "fix-up". The act of fixing up the pre-built facilities counts towards the achievement.
~Thanks to mattcrossUNC and talkstogod for supporting this theory.

For this achievement you must build one of each facility. You do not need to upgrade the facilities. You do not need to possess all the facilities at once, as to my knowledge no base has enough space. Therefore once a facility is built, you can destroy it and build the next one you need in that space.

As far as I know this must be done in one playthrough.

The following is the facilities you need to build for the achievement:

Cooking Area
Dining Area
Garden
Watch Tower
Library
Medical Area
Sleeping Area
Storage Area
Training Area
Work Area

**Generator - This "facility" is not in the game. I never built one, and I have never seen one at a base. It is listed on the Wiki as a facility, but does not exist in-game.

The Generator facility is part of the Lifeline DLC, along with some others like Latrine, Landing Zone, and Perimeter Defenses. Some of the standard facilities are also renamed when playing this DLC.

Well, I have every upgrade on your list and still don't have the achievement. I'm thinking it is one of two possible things:

1.) You actually DO have to build all of them, in which case there are a few I still need to do.

2.) Your list left one option out: Generator. Although I'm not sure if it's even still in the game as even the people on the wiki can't figure out where it goes. http://stateofdecay.wikia.com/wiki/Base_Upgrades

Ok, an update to my last comment: As far as I know, Generators aren't in the game. So I assumed you actually do have to build every area and sure enough, the achievement popped after the last one. I figured since the Church had a cooking area, it already counted for me. When I built one, the achievement popped.

This may just be a glitchy achievement. I'm on my first playthrough and just moved to the fairgrounds. I started at the Church, moved to the house with the treehouse, the warehouse, then the fairgrounds. The achievement popped for me when I "cleaned up" the community dining facility, which was the last one I needed. Never built the library either, only had one with the treehouse house.

So, I say it does count.

I want to second the fixing up theory - i.e. fixing something counts as building it. Worked in my game.

Does it need to be in one game or they carry over and I just need to build all facilities and it can be in multiple playthroughs?

I did it in one playthrough. I am not sure if it carries over.

I moved to the synder warehouse as it is massive, cost me 50 materials so bit gutted I may need to move again to get this.

Do you need to fully build all the areas or once you start them but they aren't built they count. I built everything thus far but no achievement. I picked up the warehouse and built everything, so I'm not too sure what is going on. Built the last thing I should have needed keeping my fingers crossed for it to pop.

You should note that the facilities that are already built at the Church DO NOT count towards your total! Try building a medical area and sleeping area since those were the ones already built at the Church.

Great list; if you'd not had it there, I'd never have noticed that "Dining Area" was not immediately visible, and must be scrolled to, in order to select.

I have't played the game yet, but considering it and was wondering if this is something you have to do in a single play through?

You don't have to fix up any of the facilities at the church, so that's why existing facilities from there would be impossible to count. This is good news on fixing facilities counting - I may only have one or two to go. The warehouse is a good place to work towards as you can knock out the eight outposts and all facilities at the same time.

To answer Orge Lambart's question, each facility must be COMPLETED in order for it to count. It isn't enough to just start it, you've gotta finish it.

@ DivStorm, in my game I was asked to build another "sleeping area" for the church SO it MAY be kinda "story related" because I had 12 survivors when Lily got on my case about it

Plus she also asked me to build a library...so I'm thinking that it might be different every playthrough....which is great, replay value.....

im just going to do what i did in YOSE. I go to the warehouse, and in the spare slots i start by choosing from left to right in the selections. It popped for me without problem in YOSE, even though alot of people were having problems.

As you find new bases and advance through the game you'll have access to new facilities that can be added to your base to give you and your allies various benefits. A couple are very important to have in each base, such as a watch tower and bunks, while others can add advantages that fit your playstyle or the needs of your allies (if you don't have room for all of them yet).

The following facilities are needed:

  • Workshop
  • Sleeping Area
  • Medical Area
  • Training Area
  • Cooking Area
  • Storage Area
  • Garden
  • Library
  • Dining Area

The achievement is cumulative, so you do not need them all in one base, nor do you need to have them all built at the same time. Thus, you CAN build and deconstruct each one in order, if you wish, though you do not need to.

In total you need to build 10 buildings:

Basic workshop - 5 resources

Sleeping area (place to sleep) - 5 resources

Medical area - 10 resources

Training area (gym) - 20 resources

Cooking area (kitchen) - 20 resources

Storage area (warehouse) - 20 resources

Garden - 25 resources

Library - 20 resources

Dinning area - 40 resources

Watchtower - 15 resources
