How to unlock the I'm A Lumberbot achievement in SteamWorld Build - Definitive Guide
This takes a while, but actually wasn't too terrible. I'd suggest waiting until you're otherwise done with the game so there's less "grinding" that you need to do for this.
The easiest way to do this is to build as many woodcutters as possible, making sure they have a high fertility value, are within range of a warehouse, and ideally have items to speed up production and/or occasionally produce more items. You should also use items to increase your warehouse storage to 150. Once that is done go to your train station and create 3 trades of 50 wood (not the planks) for 1 gold. By doing this every time the train comes through and you have at least 50 wood it'll get rid of it, clearing out your storage containers, which will allow the woodcutters to cut down more trees. At this point, you can walk away for a few hours (I can confirm that you do NOT need to leave your controller plugged in, I started at 30% and let it sit with my controller off overnight and when I woke up I had the achievement unlocked).

Great mention about selling excess wood on the train to empty supplies! That didn't even cross my mind!

This achievement is cumulative across all your games and there’s not a lot you can do to “rush” this. Personally, complete all the other achievements in the game, finish all the maps and you will likely be left with this achievement (likely sitting between 40-60%) and the other achievement for building 100km of road.
If that’s true, start a new game on easy on a map of your choosing, I’d likely go for “HIGHROLLER DUNES” as it appears to have the most tree areas.
Do not focus on advancing your town at all, the less the better. You simply want to get to the point of having unlocked woodcutters and place as many into the map as possible, with as few as necessary buildings, attach them with roads and required warehouses nearby as needed.
Now we wait! Plug your contoller in and sit back whilst they do their thing!
Whilst waiting you can spend your time doing something else, or as mentioned with the road achievement, spend your time simply covering the entirety of the map in roads! If you fill the map, destroy the roads and start again as it will likely be a long wait for the 50k trees! As a guesstimate from my part it will likely be another 20+ hours of pure woodcutting!
**As mentioned in the comments: once you’ve reach your warehouse capacity chopping will slow. To alleviate this, build lots of charcoal burners too which should eat through those logs and keep them coming.

I don't think so either. You get message storage full.
currently I have it set up that trains come faster and I sell all my wood storage + have a lot of buildings that use wood: Boards & charcoal (also sell that every cylce the train comes)
That gave me faster progression than just waiting.

A trophy that is best taken care of only when you start playing.
In order for trees to be cut down, there must be space for them in the warehouse, i.e. it must be done so that the trees are constantly being used up.
Therefore, immediately place sawmills in all possible places with 100% productivity. And make trade deals to sell logs for the materials you need, and later, if you farm, you can put it for money, because if the purchased goods also take up the entire lot in the warehouse, then there will be no deal.
Put productivity improvements and the probability of additional materials on sawmills.
If you don't do all this, then the log warehouse will almost always be full and they won't be chopped. In my 2 games without this scheme and the third one according to this scheme - it turned out that I had to farm for about an hour and leave the game on rewind, left to itself.
