How to unlock the Scratching the Surface achievement in SteamWorld Dig - Definitive Guide

This one is pretty simple, after you come to the surface for the first time; when you go back to mine you are told to find the abandoned mine -- enter it, pick up the "speed boost" shoes and the achievement is yours.

Not missable with the story.

This popped for me at the very beginning of the game when I just made it to the surface for the first time. I didn't go back in the mine yet and didn't see any shoes.

It actually pops as soon as you find Archaea, which is at the beginning of the game, you hit the lever to open the door. It pops the moment you change screens after going through that newly opened door and collect the heart. Sometimes achievements delay.

This achievement isn’t popping for me, and I’ve gotten two other achievements in this game since I was supposed to have unlocked this one. Even restarting the game on a different save file didn’t unlock it for me. Not sure what the deal is.

Same trouble as Fleebs. Just got the Mythical Creatures cheevo (find Old World!), but didnt get this one.

Story related and cannot be missed. This will be obtained the first time you go into the mines.
