How to unlock the Knight: Bastille achievement in Steelrising - Definitive Guide
I found this boss to be a bit of a nuisance to be honest and I was quite overlevelled, so don't expect this boss fight to be as easy as say the Bishop was. The main reason this will be slightly harder is because if you are going for the platinum you too are going to be relying solely on the oil vials that gradually heal you over 20secs. So if your health is quite low, back off and give yourself a few seconds to get it back to a safe amount.
☆☆ If you don't have points invested in Elemental Alchemy which increased your resistance to all 3 status effects you might want to have some Frost Resistance/Alchemical Resistance vials equipped on your quick menu if the The Executioner's ice attacks are causing too much damage, because ALL his attacks will inflict frost build-up.
☆☆ Fire, fire, fire! You are going to want to become one with the flame for this fight as this is The Executioner's number one weakness. By now you'll have unlocked all the improved grenades so bring a bunch of improved flame grenades with you, improved explosive grenades are good to bring as well. If you have a favoured/strong fire weapon then bring that along too because everything helps, just leave all ice weapons in your inventory for this fight.
Phase One) Make way for the ice saw that will be thrown at your face many times, you are going to want to avoid this (not sure if this attack can be blocked/parried). Good news is the saw gets stuck in the ground for a few seconds (and rightfully so) so this is an opportune moment to get in some long-range attacks with a musket or grenades - it takes x3 improved flame grenades to set The Executioner on fire.
- Aside from throwing the saw at you, if you are close-medium range to The Executioner then he'll alternate between smacking you with the chain the saw is attached to or swing the saw in a wide arc in front of it. The latter of which does quite a bit of damage so watch out.
- A couple times The Executioner is going to wildly whip the chain around him slamming the saw on the ground in several places leaving small patches of ice on the ground that you'll want to avoid (though avoiding the saw is more immediate at this point).
- Mainly anytime you see The Executioner switch to holding the chain with one hand be prepared to move fast because the saw is going to be coming for your face, and the range The Executioner has when throwing and whipping the chain is RIDICULOUS (half the length of the battle area kind of rificulous!)
Phase Two) Once depleting the first 4 health chunks The Executioner is going to get a "little" mad and wildly whip the chain around him in a half circle, once again leaving ice patches on the ground. Back away real fast as this time The Executioner will do one or two more whips. Also, the ice patches are going to stick around for awhile longer now so keep an eye on that when moving/dodging around.
- Other than this the attacks are pretty much the same as phase one, make use of flame grenades to speed up this phase really quickly.
Phase Three) You'll know when you've reached the final phase when The Executioner jumps up in the air and slam down onto the ground. When you see these air-like rings on the ground underneath The Executioner this is you warning to back away so you don't get hit by the AoE impact when The Executioner lands back down. This will happen twice before The Executioner launches himself in the air (and out of sight) before throwing his saw into the ground where you're standing (similar move to how the Frost Acolytes jump in the air and try smack their censors down onto you) and slam on top of you. Suffice it to say that when The Executioner takes to the sky you are going to want to move ASAP before you get smushed.
- A plus side is that The Executioner moves more sluggish now and does take a fraction longer to recover after finishing his moves.
- I found that The Executioner also didn't seem to do as much ice attacks now, but i'm not sure if that's normal (or because I cooked him like a thanksgiving turkey with my flame grenades) but it coukd be different for you.
- However, when The Executioner throws his saw at you and gets it stuck in the ground (like usual) he'll now slide and pull himself in a straight line to where his saw is stuck and a little past it. You'll definitely want to have moved to either side and out of his way as The Executioner will leave a long trail of frost on the ground where he just slid.
- As well as this, The Executioner will also alternate between jumping in the air, throwing the saw into the ground and using it to pull himself to it very fast and body roll over you. Needless to say, you might want to create some distance between Aegis and the saw before you get bowled over.
Good luck, happy hunting and you got this!
P.S. Don't forget to loot the Executioner before leaving.
