You can still complete the quest, just return to the side of the carriage, jump over the broken bridge and go to the right, new locations will open there on the way to the royal orpheus, although the pointer will still be on the corpse, this does not interfere with moving forward, you will reach the queen and after talking with her the compass will be corrected.

You can't fail missions. You can easily lose one task in the quest chain from Marat. There you need to find a manifesto of charges against La Faye.
