How to unlock the 24 carats Gold challenger achievement in STEEP - Definitive Guide

So I realised the other week that the free rocket wing taster events also count. This saves doing some of the more ridiculous races (looking at you boardsleigh).

Can now confirm, thanks TheProwlerKing, that the Rocket Wings DLC doesn't count, just the 3 freebie ones.

Obviously I can't give you exact guide for every event, but if like me you were missing about 5 gold's for years, this might be a lightbulb moment.

Are you sure its the extreme pack? They are all alaska. Unless you mean the 3 free rocket wing trials everyone gets. Seriously frustrating trying to find info on this game.

Very confusing what counts and what doesn't, I unlocked the Bronze Verson when my ALPS page said I have 117 Medals, but even adding and taking away stuff like the Rocket Wings DLC and adding the Extreme ones I'd done in Alaska I can't make it add up to 115 its either more or less

Rocket Wings (aside from the 3) do not count. I just hit 115 with the Rocket Wing and no achievement pop

I got this achievement at 112 golds, which I thought was kinda odd. The ones I didn't gold were GoPro Catch Me, Lumberjack, Glacier Hurdles, Vallec Village, Fallen Rocks and La Fieuse. Those last two are crazy, don't even try. Vallec Village seems impossible due to to a weird turn you're ought to make at the end. Just couldn't do it. The other three seem doable, I didn't really try, although I heard from multiple sources Lumberjack seems impossible too.

Currently stuck on 114 golds. I have Fallen Rocks, La Fieuse, Lumberjack and Boardslayer? (Bobsleigh) left. All seem ridiculous, but going to try La Fieuse for my final gold.

For the ski park ones start further back and the one where you ride on the top of the pipe i went to the right at the start then back up and did it first go.

This is riddicolulous, seriously. Lumberjack ain't medium, vallec village is sick, I miss like 1 sec. La Fieuse and Fallen Rocks - cmmon, Fallen Rocks looks more doable. I stuck with bobsleigh and 2 more slides, which with some luck I'll do. Sekiro looks easy comparing to this.
EDIT: La Fieuse, Fallen Rocks and Lumberjack - TFU. I finally did Vallec Village. GG, but I hate this Chievo with all my heart

58 gold achievement unlocked at 55 gold for me and I didn't touch the rocketwing 'freebie' levels. So maybe the achievement might only need 112? (Possibly the rocketwing might be automatically awarded gold without the need to play them?)

As for some of the difficult levels others have mentioned, glacier hurdles is the worst so far.

- Lumberjack: Biggest tip is to slow down at the start (let gold overtake you, but not silver) so you can hold straight between the trees between checkpoint 2 and 3 (you'll notice gold slows down quite a bit here), and while it's tempting to go to the right side of the next part, it's better to go right to slow down but then aim left side to where gold goes. Try to be ahead of gold (or at most 1 second behind) when you have the open snow area. You don't need to be super fast after this point, as gold makes a few slow turns which you can gain time/distance on if needed.

- La Fieuse: There are two straight down checks in this, one is immediately at the start right after checkpoint 1, which I tend to clear the left side of it (even though it's higher, I minimise having to turn), and the checkpoint after getting clear of the mountain momentarily (this one is harder, but I try to clear the top of the checkpoint so I can tilt down earlier). If you clear that, the next checkpoint has you going hard left immediately after. Time shouldn't be an issue if you follow the sequence. I think I was 2 seconds clear of gold.

- GoPro Catch Me: Mostly about avoiding air time which usually results in missing checkpoints. Clean turning will almost guarantee it. I was 2 seconds clear of gold here too.

- Glacier Hurdles: Pain... I used the ledge right after the start to get some score and multiplier. Then to use the wall on the right to get another bit of score and multiplier. The ice 'crystals' right after, are another great way to get score. Pick whatever path/direction downhill you want, though I had better luck with the left side. I had many many runs of 28-30k. Also if you get to ~25k and crash, it can still be obtained, just depends on where you crashed.

- Boardsleigh: A bit annoying at 3 parts. First is after checkpoint 1, when it goes on snow. I aim to turn about 35-40 degrees into the snow uphill so it slows me down enough to not overshoot or undershoot it. The next bit is a bit before checkpoint 2, you can go slow here and there's a gold/yellow balloon that I aim to jump left of to land on the halfpipe for checkpoint 2. It feels unintuitive but that's what they wanted I guess. The last troublesome part is IMMEDIATELY after checkpoint 2, as you need to go a bit left of the center. You can slow down here as gold is quite lenient on time, but too slow and you'll require RT to jump it and even then it might not make it. You can stumble on the jump before checkpoint 1 as well, though try to pass checkpoint 1 before 30s mark. I ended up being 5 seconds clear of gold.

I have not yet attempted Vallec Village or Fallen Rocks.

Could potentially the free rocket wing trials.
Just double checked, and I don't own the 'Rocket Wings DLC', i only own the Season Pass, and the Olympics Pass.

So potentially, all the Rocket Wings DLC golds would count as well, but im not paying more money when i own the "season pass"

I don't own any DLC, so the only Rocket Wings events I did were the 3 you get free. I then unlocked the achievement while missing 3 of the events from the main list, so this is a great tip from gazhibs, thank you! Only Alps counts for the achievement, Alaska medals are irrelevant.

I abandoned Fallen Rocks because holy cow no, Vallec Village because I was still several seconds off gold even with no major crashes, and Lumberjack because I hate you, Lumberjack, with every fibre of my being.

For any other average skill players like me, I found two tips that completely transformed a couple of hard ones for me. Journey (paragliding) is solved by never using up and down, only left and right. Seems counter-intuitive, but I got it first try after learning that tip. Then Go Pro Catch Me is made immeasurably easier by holding jump the whole way - after an hour of struggling I got it 5 minutes after reading this tip.

And no, holding jump is not the answer for Lumberjack, and nor is skiing backwards. If I could erase any moment of my gaming history, I'd erase the 5 hours I spent trying to gold Lumberjack, with a best time 6 thousandths of a second short, another run several seconds faster where I missed the penultimate checkpoint, and several thousand crashes and missed checkpoints. Die, Lumberjack you hateful non-medium timewaste, die.

Most events are fairly easy across the mountain. Here is a general breakdown of the best tips and strategies to earn a gold medal in each type of event:

Ski/Snowboard Challenges

Score multiplier - to increase the multiplier in these events, you can do so by doing tricks, riding close to trees, rocks or glaciers and not crashing. If you crash/wipeout, the multiplier resets. See each event to find out more.

Events

Cliff Drop - This event is one huge drop off the side of the mountain in order to do one big trick and land it successfully. Sometimes it's better to switch sports to "on-foot" and start further back, than what the game would start you out as so you can gain more speed before making your jump. To get big tricks, move the in the desired direction for flips/spins and the in different directions to do different tricks. Add grabs/holds in by holding either , or both.

Snow Park - In these events you will not always have speed on your side as much as you'd like. Sometimes it's better to back up your starting point, much like with Cliff Drop events. If you find yourself in a half-pipe, you do not necessarily have to follow the white guide line. You can try to fit in as many tricks as possible, while still keeping your momentum. The same strategy applies to doing tricks here.

Freestyle - These events are an "A to B" style events, sometimes with checkpoints thrown in. During these events, you can gain points by doing normal tricks but also by riding close to trees, rocks or glaciers. Getting your multiplier up as fast and high as possible in the beginning is key.

Boarder/Ski Cross, Derby and Races - These are timed events, sometimes with checkpoints involved. Tricks are not required here and your multiplier has no effect on your speed. Depending on the course, sometimes skiing is better than boarding due to the ability to control your character in tight areas. Hold the forward whenever possible to pick up speed, stay low and unless necessary avoid getting "big air" on jumps.

Creative Line - These events are unusual for a game like this. In this event, points are awarded for taking the path of most resistance. The goal is to ride on hills, cliffs, rocks, glaciers and peaks whenever possible. Doing so is the only way to increase your multiplier, which is slow to increase. Doing tricks will not increase it. Speed isn't required in these events, as most times it's better to take it at a moderate pace so you have more control in the tight areas. Like any other event, when you wipeout; the multiplier will reset. The white guide line is always a good bet but in some of the harder events you want to stray away from it in order to get gold but still stay on the general path. See the Night Owl video here for more info: LINK

Wingsuit Challenges

Events

Skydiving and Derby - These events require you to beat a certain time in order to obtain the gold. When starting these events you must have your wingsuit equipped and press the forward in order to begin. You must fly through checkpoints throughout the course. Like skiing/boarding, holding forward will help you pick up speed while also bringing you close to the ground. The is used for faster manoeuvring. Move it to the right or left in order to dodge obstacles in front of you at high speeds. The multiplier has no effect on the outcome of these.

Proximity Flying - These events are all about flying close to something, whether it be the ground, rocks, glaciers or slopes. Staying as close as possible will bring up your multiplier. If you drift too far away from everything to where you're in "open" air you will not score any points. These events have checkpoints at times so make sure you keep an eye on the orange-highlighted checkpoint coming up next so you can position yourself correctly.

Paraglide Challenges

Events

Cross-Country and Ascent - These events are for time, sometimes involving checkpoint in-between start and finish. To be successful, fight the urge to move the . Most times, as long as you're near the white guide line, your glider will be right where in needs to be without sacrificing speed. If you have to make any adjustments, do not use the aggressively as it will end up costing you time. If you find yourself needing to descend quickly, hold down instead of using the as you will descend faster without sacrificing speed. When ascending, you will notice anywhere between 0 and 5 green arrows accompanied by an increasing audible beeping noise. To climb up quickly, stick close to the mountains to find a nice up-draft. When that draft goes away, use to quickly do a 180 and continue to use this "zig zag" method to the top.

Crossways Thrill - This is the only paraglide event for points. The multiplier is the same as during Proximity Flying events in the wing suit. Stick to the mountains, fly between the tops of trees or close to obstacles in order to increase your multiplier and score points.

Obtain the gold medal in each event and the trophy is yours. See my video guide for the hardest ones here: LINK

Try to go for gold right away! Yes, it’s difficult, but then it will be harder to come back..
Try to choose one sport. Have you closed one? Okay, move on to the wingsuit or paraglider.
This way you will definitely get used to the controls.

You need to get 115 gold, but at the moment there are only 118 challenges (another 3 are the jet wingsuit). Checked: they count. You can use them if some skis, for example, are difficult to cross.

You don't have to win gold in every challenge, you can win 115 gold medals in one challenge and the trophy is yours, I checked it personally!

In some tests you can take the acceleration in advance; on highways 20 will definitely help.

The principle of operation of a paraglider: if you need to rise higher or accelerate, then press And we pull back, in this case the Persian becomes difficult to control, but you can get used to it; if you need to go down, press down
Wingsuit is a separate topic, only endless training will help.

Addition from Artem12-03-89 - having an honest 90 gold medals, I passed various tests 100 times and received nothing, so this tip is not relevant at all

the same problem, when I finish the race and immediately leave the game, the medals are not counted, but the record remains

In many challenges you can set a projection of the player's trail, this helps a lot with paragliders.
You can turn it on like this: on the map, hover the cursor over the test and press the left stick, after which the square and then check the repeat box at your discretion, but I recommend choosing the daily record, since it will be easier to repeat than the all-time record. After these manipulations, I also advise you to press the left stick again so that the test shows “friends” (I don’t know how it works, but sometimes because of this the medals were not counted and you had to break your own record again in order for it to be counted)

I had a problem that some tests that I had already passed for gold, for some reason, did not burn gold, but bronze, this happened about 3 times, I advise you to get all the gold at the very end, because the same thing could happen to me, you will complete a race or several, and it will lay down and will not give out gold. In the screenshot I have a record of 1:04, for gold you need no more than 1:17, but bronze hangs and the achievement won’t come out, I tried to go through again, went for gold and it was already counted.

Try to complete the level if possible, rather than endlessly restarting.
In some races/flights, we “compete” with a bot. By default, it has a bronze rank, and its own optimal trajectory, repeating which, most likely, you will receive a bronze/silver rank.
When you re-enter the race, the opponent’s rank changes to gold or silver (depending on how you drove before) and the optimal trajectory changes. As a rule, it changes to a more aggressive one, but accordingly more profitable in terms of points.

One of the most painful trophies, but there is a way out. When you complete tasks, you are given game currency, which seems to be equal to the experience for these tasks. In the in-game store in the “sports” section we buy a rocket wingsuit (it costs about 40,000), thus opening 3 tasks for it (1 easy and 2 medium). They also count towards 115 medals. Knocked out the trophy by completing them, but not completing 3 quite difficult races (Fallen Rocks, La Fieuse and Vallec Village)
