How to unlock the Starship Troopers Goal Wizard achievement in Stern Pinball Arcade - Definitive Guide
Another tough one indeed. You must complete the Standard goals before the Wizard goals become available. Here's what you do for the Wizard goals:
Score an Orbit Jackpot: One of the easier goals. Start by activating Orbit Multiball. This is done by shooting either loop shortly after rolling through an inlane, which adds a letter to O-N-E. Spelling O-N-E locks your first ball. Do the same thing to spell out T-W-O. As soon as you collect the O, Orbit Multiball begins. All you have to do now is hit one loop shot during the multiball and you'll get the goal along with a cool animation of a bombing run.
Collect a Level 6 Recon Award: This is also one of the easier ones. The game starts with Recon lit at Level 1. You increase the level by hitting both ramps once (you'll hear "Starship Troopers!" followed by "Recon" when you advance the level). Once you get it to level 6 (the display will inform you what level Recon is currently at when you hit both ramps), simply get the ball in the Recon hole to the right to claim your goal.
Score a Super Jackpot: This can be earned during regular Multiball, which is started by bashing on the Guardian target a few times and getting the ball into the sinkhole behind it. Once Multiball starts, you must score 4 Jackpots by hitting either ramp. Hitting the Guardian spots a Jackpot for you. Once 4 total are collected, the Guardian opens up for 15 seconds for the Super. Hit it to collect it. If you run out of time, you must collect more Jackpots before the Super will light up again.
Nuke 5 Planets: The wording on this is confusing, but I'll clear it up for you. When you clear all of the bugs on a planet, you have two choices: hitting the hole on the left to arm the nukes and begin Planet Multiball, or hitting the Recon hole and immediately beginning an assault on the next planet. To get this goal, you must clear all bugs on every planet (minus Klendathu, obviously) and DO NOT hit the left hole until you have cleared Planet P. In other words, after every planet, you must always hit the Recon shot and avoid the Nuke hole until you're done Planet P, then hit the Nuke hole to nuke all 5 planets.
Strategy: An easy way to hit the Nuke hole when you're ready to start Planet Multiball is to hold the ball on the right flipper. With the ball resting against it, simply fire the mini flipper with RB and 9 times out of 10 the ball will go right into the hole! If you're having trouble, nudge up before hitting the little flipper.
Complete Klendathu: This is much easier than one might expect. You can do it the easy way or the hard way.
Hard way: Clear all bugs on every planet and nuke them all, then hit the Recon hole to start Klendathu. Once Klendathu starts, you'll be given 4 balls and a 45 second ballsaver. Your goal is simple: hit all 5 shots once (both loops, both ramps and the Guardian) and kill 9 of every bug type before you lose 3 of the 4 balls. Do that, and you win the battle! Good work, soldier.
Easy way: On ball 3, collect a Recon Level 6 award (see that goal above). One possible award is starting Klendathu. The awesome thing about this is that when you collect that reward, not only does it take you right to wizard mode but you get the goal as well, you don't even have to complete it!!! It pops as soon as Klendathu starts.
