This solution is more complete than the solution above, here I will show the strategy I used in detail.
Well, to make it easier we will use 2 controls (as said in the solution above) with control 1 select Retiarius and with control 2 select Murmillo, the controller that has Murmillo selected I used a rubber band on the control to keep pressing
(shield defense) as this will be fundamental for a victorious race! Below is an image of how I used the elastic 👇🏻
Well, as soon as the game starts put Murmillo in the lower left corner behind the hole in the ground with the pressed for the shield, after that keep Retarius behind him attacking the enemies that appear (don't go too far because Retarius is very weak and receives a lot of damage from the enemies) always pay attention to the yellow bar in the lower left corner of the screen, whenever it is full press 
for the public to throw stones, food and totems (don't use the totems that fall in the arena, save them for the last wave so you don't have a headache when facing the last boss) You will earn a skill point to use as you complete waves.

For Murmillo focus on increasing his Armor, Shield and Defense to the maximum.
For Retratius focus on increasing your crossbow, attack, attack speed, armor and projectiles to the maximum.
In the last wave, be careful and don't go too far, when there is only the final boss left, use the totems that are on the ground to stun the boss for a few seconds and attack him, once the stun is over, take another totem and repeat the process until he dies!

Beating the tournament by yourself can be quiet a challenge! Thankfully you can play this mode local coop. If you have noone to play with (like myself) get a 2nd controller and chose Bestiarius as player 2. I like him because of the 2 beast he can summon by pressing B. I simply put Bestiarus in front of me towards the left side of the map, and when enemies came, I just spear them as they come.
Big tip is to spend points on the beast first! The tiger, puma and lion help alot vs the enemies. Once you beat wave 15 you will unlock the achievement since Player 1 was with Retiarus.
