You'll need a full grown chicken, not a chick.
Any affection level can win this, as all that is required is to push
when your chicken is facing the opponent's chicken, even if the other chicken isnt facing you, that's okay.
You'll need to learn the distance the taunt works in, usually a chicken or 2 length wise.
Just keep tapping once you do startle the other chicken, as you can usually chain taunts together.
I'll post a video when I get back around to the festival.
