How to unlock the Columbus achievement in Stranded Deep - Definitive Guide
This achievement is pretty straightforward, but it can be time-consuming. You need to visit 10 separate islands and craft a fire.
It's a bit confusing that the achievement specifies "camp fire" - to clarify, it wants you to build a "fire" as opposed to a "fire pit" (i.e., 4 wood pieces, no rocks required).

Just a tip,
Spears are cheap to make.
Make a spear and throw in the direction you came (or going, or both) so that you know that you have been there or where you came from. Its REALLY easy to get lost and go in circles in this game. You will easily get this as you explore, but this will help you help keep track as your explore.

I've noticed the bird traps more or less point in a direction, they are signpost shaped. I'm planning on placing them so that they point back to my homebase island.
Well I ended up just using a wood platform with a wood wedge to make the shape of an arrow. With a spear thrown into it facing towards my home island for good measure, or the next island in line that makes it back to the home island.
Also if you use the sleeping bag to save on an island, and go back to the main menu and open the Cartographer, it'll show what current island you are on in red.
