How to unlock the Purloined Letters achievement in Strange Brigade - Definitive Guide

I will post here a complete collectibles guide. There are 198 collectibles in the game. 62 Letters (46 Letters in fixed locations, 16 letters random in chests), 48 Relics, 48 Blue Cats, 32 Jars and 8 golden Cats which requires the 48 blue cats to unlock the cat door for each golden cat.

Please keep in mind that the 16 letter collectibles from the categories "Tales of the Strange Brigade" and "The Legends of Seteki" are randomly located in treasure chests and are not part of this guide. This guide only shows the collectibles with a fixed location and being counted in the mission overview (182 instead of 198)

Quick Personal Achievement Review

This game is part of Gamepass (as of JAN 2019), so it's free to subscribers. I was able to get all BASE GAME & TITLE UPDATE achievements without too much trouble. Overall it was a fun game IMO, looked good, and was great for Co-op play throughout campaign where BOTH people could get the collectibles and achievements during the same playthrough (NOT "Host Only"). As for beating the game on the hardest difficulty, I found it A LOT easier to beat SOLO opposed to CO-OP since they basically give you 2x the enemies along with increased health and damage for said enemies.

That's my quick overview of this game for Cheev hunters, best of luck! :)

There are 62 Letters which form the Diary. 46 Letters in fixed locations and 16 letters in random chests. Note: The Letters found in Chests, only count for the person who finds them and not the whole team if you're in co-op so let your teammate(s) take them instead if you already have one.

The Chest based letters can be farmed by doing the following. In the very first mission, there are two chests you can farm at the very first checkpoint so open them both for two chances of getting a letters but these chests also contain gems so you can use this method to farm those as well. See the video for Master of the Mystical, to see how to do this farming run efficiently.

There are eight levels in the game and each has:

  • 6 Relics (48 total)
  • 4 Canopic Jars (32 total)
  • 6 Blue Cat Idols (48 total)
  • 1 Golden Cat Idol (door appears after all 6 cats in a level are destroyed) (8 total)
  • 5-7 Letters per level (42 total)
  • 16 Letters randomly found in chests

In total, there are 198 collectibles. When you pick up a collectible, it is saved immediately. Note that if playing in co-op, while the Relics and Cats are shared between all players (only one person in the party needs to obtain them), the Jars and Letters have to be found individually.

In order to obtain the 16 random letters, you need to open as many chests as possible throughout the campaign. They are randomly placed in them along with gems and gold. If you are playing co-op, you will likely not find many of them and will have to farm this solo for the remainder. The method outlined in "Master of the Mystical" is probably the easiest way to collect them.
