How to unlock the Rat Tail achievement in STRANGER OF PARADISE FINAL FANTASY ORIGIN PS4 & PS5 - Definitive Guide

You need to complete certain main story missions on Bahamut difficulty to get rat tails. The game will show the rat tail as a reward on missions it's offered. You will need to finish the first two DLC missions to unlock the difficulty.

If you are having trouble with Bahamut difficulty, you can start the game in Extra mode. Press Y to start a mission in Extra mode instead of A to start it. Extra mode can be made easier but unlocking Runic Protection in the Void Knight class. Equip that skill under command abilities. Extra mode will give you unlimited MP and Runic Protection takes MP instead of health making it so you cannot die. This will add a blue icon under your HP and MP bar. Don't let it run out. You can activate the skill as much as you want. Just make sure it stays up so you don't die.

The only annoying thing about Extra mode is that it can only be used in solo play.

You will need to complete the third mission of the DLC called "Trials of the Dragon King" and this is a good place to test your new invincibility and get rewarded a rat tail. Choosing a higher level fight will offer even more rat tails which you will need for the new class trees.

Rat Tails are the the token of strength Bahamut request to see. By raising a mission's level on BAHAMUT difficulty above 200, you'll receive 2 of these for each increment. You need some of them to continue with the story but their main use are others:
  • You need them for the new Ultima/Evoker class tree unlocked through the storyline. You will use rat tails instead of job points to unlock new abilities.
  • You need them, also, for the forge on the next DLC (see Deep Delver trophy_bronze.png).
Collect them on your way to the end of the story and DON'T ABUSE. Use them only to get the trophies you need and leave the others for the next DLC, in order to reduce the grinding times later.
