How to unlock the Legendary Champion achievement in STREET FIGHTER IV - Definitive Guide

Unlock the first six unlockable characters by beating arcade mode with these 6 fighters

Ryu = unlocks Sakura
Sakura = unlocks Dan
C. Viper = unlocks Cammy
Chun-Li = unlocks Gen
Abel = unlocks Fei-Long
M.Bison = unlocks Rose

Then beat the game 1 more time with a character you already beat the arcade mode with by achieving at least 1 perfect and no continues to unlock Akuma (this is best done on the Easiest setting).

Then beat arcade mode with Akuma.

Then to Unlock Gouken and defeat him on Hardest difficulty:

Set difficulty to HARDEST, 1 round, 99 seconds (99 seconds gives you enough time to fill up your meters and adds bonus points to your score which is required to fight Gouken).

Pick Zangief and use the spam the LB button (LP,MP,HP) helicopter move technique. This makes it much easier to achieve the following stipulations. Use your favorite fighter if you prefer.

You need to achieve:

- Play with any characters with which you watched the ending once (so play using a character you have already beaten the game with)

- Do not continue at all.

- Do not lose at all. Not even one round (easier if you only play 1-round matches or use controller 2 to interrupt the a fight if you are about to lose)

- Achieve certain number (or more) of "Perfect" rounds. The number of Perfect Win you need to achieve are:

If you play on

- 1 round match: 1 time or more

- 3 round match: 2 times or more

- 5 round match: 3 times or more

- 7 round match: 4 times or more

- Achieve a certain number (or more) of Super Combo -OR- Ultra Combo Finishes. Super and Ultra finishes both count toward this number. The number of super/ultra finishes you need to achieve are:

If you play on

- 1 round match: 3 times or more

- 3 round match: 5 times or more

- 5 round match: 7 times or more

- 7 round match: 9 times or more

- Achieve certain number (or more) of First Attack (this means you must score the first strike in a match--the screen gives you the "First Attack" message, and you can mostly do this without even noticing):

The number of First Attack you need to achieve are:

If you play on

- 1 round match: 5 times or more

- 3 round match: 10 times or more

- 5 round match: 15 times or more

- 7 round match: 20 times or more

- Then Gouken will appear.

After you defeat Seth you will fight Gouken. Beat him to get your achievement and unlock Gouken as a playable character.

I just did it and no, you don't need a super if you get in another ultra. Also I'd like to add to use the player 2 option not only if you're losing but also if you miss a perfect/ultra.

Thanks mate. At first i was having trouble getting the 5 first attacks, but all you have to do is to be defensive until you get the first hit, counter attacking to get it instead of going double lariat from the beginning. You need to be very defensive against Seth too.

Great solution!

I don't think it's too easy to do Super or Ultra of Zangief... Is there any way around aside from Sagat?

Ok, i just read on internet that you can do an empty jump and input Zngief Ultra combo combinations while in mid-air, so he can do the combo in the ground.

So I got to Gouken without unlocking Akuma, or even fighting him for that matter. I unlocked the 6 characters mentioned in the first paragraph and then I went back and beat the arcade again with Ryu (who I already had beaten the arcade with once before) on medium. I fought Gouken then, but since I was on medium, the legendary fighter achievement didnt pop. Went back again on hardest and beat him again with Ryu and the achievement unlocked. I achieved all the pre reqs to face him both times. So how do I get Akuma now? Everytime I play through the arcade, I have to fight Gouken. And I get at least 1 perfect and no continues everytime. He should show up but hes not : (

There are lots of ways people have found to do this lots of people reccommend zangief but I have a hard time doing his ultra. Here's the easiest way I've found to do this:

After completing the steps above and unlocking Gouken go back in and do the following:

Set the game to hardest 1 round with 99 timer

Pick Sagat

Now the king is overpowered anyway but the hardest thing I find about this achievemnt is guaranteeing a Perfect. you can guarantee a perfect against Rufus If you get him as an opponent playing as Sagat here's how:

When at starting distance apart the Rufus AI will almost always use Messiah Kick. Tiger Knee this and jump back to reset distance. Rince and repeat.

Sagat's Ultra is also a lot easier (if you're a nubbin like me who can't land zangief's) and overrides quite a lot of other people's moves. I have a really hard time landing Zangief's and Ultra and even charge character moves like Honda's. The Double QCF+XXX's are the easiest to do and can be mashed out almost anytime.

Apart from that follow the advice above, use the second pad to stop if you're about to lose/miss a perfect/miss an ultra get 1 perfect 3 ultras and 5 first hitd without losing a round

Tips for Seth with sagat:

Be cheap, don't try to do anything flashy as it usually wont pay off

I normally start with Jump in Heavy Kick to Crouching heavy kick and then crouching block normally his follow up will be spin kicks, block the first hit while crouching and heavy kick.

Seth will then do different moves depending on your distance from him and how you come at him. Again be cheap. sagats heavy Kicks and Punches do massive amounts of damage and seth has the worst health of any character in the game (he has less health than akuma)

Be patient and wait for an opening:

when he does Tanden Engine (the move that drag's you to him) Block the hit he does after this and then do a crouching heavy kick

If you're feeling confident when he sonic booms/Dhalism arm stretches jump towards and Heavy kick crouching heavy kick (Be careful if you time this wrong you will eat a shoryuken)

When he does teleports there are lots of things you can do but the main danger is being caught with spinning piledriver. I normally throw caution to the wind and Tiger Knee as he does the third teleport just so I'm moving.

Anyways Stick at it and you'll get you're achievement :D

The Zangief method works great. One thing I wasn't totally sure on was whether or not you could use another controller to continue. Thankfully YOU CAN.
So if you're:
-About to die
-Missed out on an Ultra Combo needed
-Missed out on a First Attack needed
simply hit the start button on a second controller, beat the heck out of a blank opponent. And try on the level you lost on.

*This doesn't affect the achievement. So as long as you're on Hardest, and get the right amount of requirements to face Gouken you'll be good

I found it easier to use Zangief, and while going for Ultra Combos, let your Revenge meter go up first. Then Double Lariat the computer to death, and at some point you'll stagger them and that's when you should pull off your Ultra Combo. It's much easier that way.

In order to make Gouken appear, you must successfully complete Arcade mode with Akuma, then play Arcade mode with any character. Set the rounds to 1 with 30 seconds. Get at least one 'Perfect' victory, three 'Ultra' combo finishes, five 'First Attack' hits, and do not lose a single round to fight Gouken after beating Seth. Defeat Gouken to unlock him. I would suggest pressing the button on a second controller, and when your about to lose, just press on it. This will prevent you from losing to him. Defeat your second controller and you will go back to him afterwards. (Note: people have been having a problem making him appear, just keep trying and he'll eventually appear.)

Here's a thread, from X360A (credit goes to them), on techniques on how to beat Seth.

*These trophies can be completed in any game mode that allows you to defeat your opponent. This includes Arcade, Versus (local and online), Survival and/or Time Attack. They do not unlock in Training or Trial.

OK, here seem to be the unlock conditions (warning: DO NOT EXCEED THEM! I ran into problems)

Set Rounds to 1
1 Perfect
3 Super/Ultra Combo Finishes (I'd also highly suggest getting these done before Seth: It may not have counted Ultra Finishing him)
5 First Attacks (Source: TA)

OK, now for the fun part: Here are my tips:

1. Second controller mandatory. You are going to screw up unless you're someone like Daigo Umehara. New Challenger when you screw up.
2. If you have a fight stick and know how to use it, I'd highly suggest using it on this one.
3. If you're not a pro, Cheap 'Gief with the Lariats is the best way to deal with this problem. Use jump buffers to land 720's, I'd suggest going to Training Mode to get the timing down and only attempting 720s when the opponent gets stunned.
4. If you don't have a stick or a MadCatz Fighting Game Pad and have to use the PS3/PS4 controller, here's the controller setup I use:

Square: Light Punch (in case you ever need a SPD)
Triangle: Your choice
X: LP + MP + HP (for easy Lariats)
Circle: HK (you will need it to stop cheap Ultras)
L1/R1: Your Choice
L2/R2: TURN OFF! This was by far the most frustrating thing for me trying this with those buttons on. Once I turned them off this was far easier. And yes, I'm probably a cheap-ass.

Considering Capcom is giving everybody the big FU in terms of completing their games and making them near impossible, enjoy people.

For this, you are going to want to use Zangief. Even on the hardest difficulty, the computer still isn't too smart when it comes to Double Lariat spams. So, fulfill the requests to unlock Gouken, and defeat him. Once you do, this achievement will unlock.

To get to Gouken you are required. (I would immediately advise you to set it to 1 round because this will make the game much easier) Of course, you choose the character Zangief.

What is required of you:

2 Perfect

4 ultra endings or super

Hit first 5 times
