How to unlock the Technical Fighter achievement in STREET FIGHTER IV - Definitive Guide

This will most likely take some time and get your fairly frustrated. You must finish Trial mode on Normal with all characters so must have them all unlocked in order to get the achievement. I highly recommend going here http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=kalelulen4&view=vide... and watching the video for whatever character you're trying to pass the trail on. Watch and learn the spacing he uses and also how fast/how many hits a move takes to know if you just aren't doing the moves fast enough or if you need to cancel certain ones, etc.

But keep at it and don't give up. If you get really frustrated just skip that character or go play some ranked battles or arcade and try to tackle it later and maybe your fingers will be more cooperative :P

And I did all of them using the 360 controller, so it is possible and you won't need a stick, but if you're serious about SF you should probably look into it.

If you have any questions about a certain move/combo don't be afraid to ask, I'll try to help you out as best I can.

Those videos don't help it all, it just shows him doing all the moves, doesn't give any tips or show how to do some of them. And all you said was be don't give up...Thats not a solution

It tells you in the game EXACTLY how to do the combos. And the game tells you how to do every single move. Unless you have any certain particular problem I'd be able to help you, but if you just suck at general there really isn't anything I can do.

I use this as a complement to the video guides. If you're new to SF (like me) you probably won't get how certain moves are performed since the game is rather bad at explaining how for instance cancles work etc. But with that guide you'll pick up a thing or two and also sometimes find simpler ways of nailing certain combos.

So you have to clear the Trial mode with every single character to get this achievement? And likewise for the Survival and Time Attack achievements? Or do you just need to complete it with one character?
can't find the answers myself

You need to clear all 5 trials with every character (same applies to hard trials), aswell as the the Survivals and Time attacks, yeah.

I have done about 10 characters but I'm really stuck on charge moves. Also done over 62% of trials on Super SFIV but I know I can do more. I can't even do Dhalsim's MK into Yoga Flame. Help please? Oh and you don't have to do survival & time attack with every character- you can use any.

Like MaGilly Gorilla, I don't think that the videos are that useful. There are a lot more on youtube that shows how to do the tricks with an image from the controller. The problem is that I don't know how to put some combos together, and this videos fails miserably in doing that. I do reccomend a search on Youtube, as there are a lot more videos about this trials.

The you tube link in your solution no longer works. It says the account no longer exists when I click on it?

For people like me and Mobius Evalon there's only one way to get this. Use a Cronus. I found a few scripts in the online library and am working on the ones I couldn't find.

Kind of bizarre you admit the only way you got the achievement was using a script, but have the completed game in your trophy case.

Yea it was a lot of work to write those scripts. And the other challenges I had to do legit. How about you worry about your own stats. Will cause you less of a headache. laugh

I found those videos myself earlier and they DO help. Like Digniax said, you have to watch your spacing and the speed of your execution. SF has very tight combo rhythms, you only have a few frames of animation in which you can do the next linked move. This is good because it gives you options, but at the cost of a high learning curve.

If you watch your character closely you will see that it's animation pauses very briefly when a punch or kick hits your opponent. This frame of animation is your cue to be doing the next link in your combo chain, or halfway done for moves that require more complex inputs, like Super charges or Chun Li's crouching medium kick into light llightning kicks (you can start the first half of the movements/button presses for move C before move D , and then finish the other half of move C after you finish move D). It helps if you look at a specific body part of your character, or a piece of clothing that stands out because of it's color (for example, Rose's yellow scarf). It takes time to get used to, but you will see what I'm talking about.

edit - I meant start the first half of move D before C, then do move C, and finish the last half of move D afterwards.

Right, it also works alongside charge moves. If I needed to use Honda's Head Ram into his ultra, instead of charging back, forward + punch, then charge back again, forward, back, forward + punch, you can simply do charge back, forward +punch, back, forward + punch, as long as you get the timing right.

A friend talked me into trying this game and all he did was hand me my ass for two hours and then never played it with me again.

This crap is so hard. Without a university course in each fighter's movesets and the reaction time of a fighter pilot, fighting games are impossible to master. This game has failed at every turn explaining all of its core mechanics (focus moves, canceling, etc.) and has an input grace of one third to one fourth of a second, with absolutely no tolerance for button mashing. I can't pass Ryu's hard trial 1 because I can't get the timing down from the heavy into the medium punches without terminating the combo.

If you aren't a fighting game aficionado already then you certainly aren't going to master it now, so I think the best advice is that, if you're searching for a solution to this like I am, then you should just quit now and stop trying. It's probably a great game for everyone who dropped their entire allowances into arcade machines when they were younger, but it is absolutely not friendly to a complete newbie. Anyone who says it's accessible to new players is a horrible liar.
