How to unlock the Outstanding duelist achievement in Styx: Master of Shadows - Definitive Guide
A duel is when you and your opponent are fighting in close range.
You have to press when your opponent is about to hit you with his weapon to block. Do this enough times in a short time and you get the option to kill your opponent with .
That's 1 kill. Either do this in natural progression through the game or keep reloading a save file near an opponent to grind it.
Note: I don't advise reloading saves for this since the load progress is slow and you can easily get this by playing normally.
A duel automatically starts whenever an enemy has detected you and engages you in combat. The duel officially begins when you see (Parry) showing on the screen. In order to win the duel, you must successfully parry their attacks by pressing at the right time. Most enemies require more than one successful parry to win the duel. Eventually the word Parry will change to Kill. There is no timing required for Kill; just press as soon as you see it. After 20 successful duels the trophy will pop.
Any successful duel is immediately saved and counted in your game data. If you die, or simply restart, the successful duel is still counted. If you wanted to save right before a guard, defeat him, and then reload your save 19 times this does work for the trophy. However, you frankly do not need to do this as there are way more than 20 locations to fight a single enemy one-on-one safely and 19 game loads would take a considerable amount of your time.
This is one of the very few achievements that deviates from the stealth-based gameplay as it requires you to essentially get detected on purpose. When an enemy spots you, they will rush over and begin attacking you in a duel-like fashion. Here, you are locked into the duel. In order to defeat them, you’ll need to parry their attacks by tapping at the right moment until you destabilize their footing.
The weaker guards in the game only need to be parried once before Styx jumps on them and kills them. As you progress through the game however, enemy guards will become more aggressive and will require several more parries before Styx can finish them off. Try to avoid being spotted over the course of your playthrough, but for the purpose of this achievement, all that is required is to successfully kill a total of twenty enemies in a dual.
