How to unlock the 40-foot Sub For One achievement in Subnautica - Definitive Guide
This achievement is awarded for creating the Cyclops.
You will need a Mobile Vehicle Bay in order to create the Cyclops. This means you will need to explore and scan fragments to unlock the Mobile Vehicle Bay blueprint, and to unlock the Cyclops.
If you’re trying to unlock the Cyclops then you probably already created the Mobile Vehicle Bay earlier when unlocking the Seamoth.
Unlocking the Cyclops is fairly long winded. But the ends justify the means. It may be a grind but the Cyclops advances your exploration like nothing before it. Explore deeper, dock a Seamoth or a Prawn suit within the Cyclops, it’s a moving base.
The Cyclops Blueprints
You will need to unlock three different sets of blueprints to unlock the Cyclops. There’s the Cyclops Hull, Cyclops Engine, and Cyclops Bridge blueprints.
Each set requires three fragments to be scanned in order to complete the component. Each component is shown individually in the PDA. Each completed component will progress the overall Cyclops blueprint by 33%; to fully complete the Cyclops blueprint, you must find and scan nine fragments in total.
Finding Cyclops fragments
There is an element of RNG in fragment spawns. But normally parts of the Cyclops can be found near the back of the Aurora. That’s the right hand side of the giant shipwreck if you’re looking at it from your Lifepod. Watch out there will be a dangerous Reaper Leviathan swimming around those parts so be careful.
Creating the Cyclops
After unlocking all Blueprints, you’ll need the following materials to create the Cyclops in the Mobile Vehicle Bay:
Total raw materials list:
Creepvine Seed Cluster x1
Copper x2
Silver x2
Table Coral Sample x2
Gold x3
Lead x3
Stalker Tooth x3
Quartz x6
Lithium x6
Titanium x30
The Cyclops recipe is:
Plasteel Ingot x3
Enameled Glass x3
Lubricant x1
Advanced Wiring Kit x1
Lead x3
Unlocking the achievement
Once you have created the Cyclops the achievement will unlock.
If you have an old save file, where you already have the Cyclops, you can load this saved game and then retroactively unlock the achievement. The same applies for most of these achievements.
I unlocked this achievement in Freedom mode. So it’s definitely possible to unlock this achievement in Freedom and Survival mode.

After building the Cyclops, I saved my game, reloaded, and the achievement popped.

To build the Cyclops submarine, you need to analyze the fragments in three positions: the Cyclops engine, the Cyclops bridge, the Cyclops hull. All details are located in different parts of the map, most often in dangerous ones. For example, not far from Aurora, namely behind the propulsion systems where the Reaper floats. And also close to the bow.
PS Indicated the approximate location of some fragments.
