You should end up getting this achievement naturally when you try to go for the 'Chaos' achievements. Traps can only be used during the Chaos Squad segments, when swarms of enemies attempt to swarm you at once. You are given a set amount of energy to use, which allows you to place one of four traps around the area. You can unlock several more traps throughout the game.
However, I personally prefer more traps over better traps. It uses less energy and lets you spread your traps out more. Gun turrets and blade traps are the most useful. Put these right outside the fences that block the way to your Overcharge tanks. The enemies will swarm them and get gunned down, or knifed to bits.
Try to use up all your energy you can, don't let it go to waste. If you have 30 left, use a trap that needs 30 energy, not one that needs 25.

You can also get trap kills in Night Defenses in single player, nobody plays this anymore sadly, so Chaos Squad is no option..

You can use traps when defending your forts. You unlock various different ones as you complete the campaign with some of the later ones being rather powerful. There are also some side mission were you will use traps to defend an area and these will accumulate potentially hundreds of kills towards this achievement. There is a mission for Troop Bushido, 'The Firework Show' where you can only use a trap called 'Pop Rocket' trap and it kills OD very quickly. You can keep playing this mission repeatedly until the achievement unlocks.
