How to unlock the Iron Boy! achievement in Super Meat Boy - Definitive Guide

This achievement requires you to beat an entire world - 20 levels - without dying and it piggybacks off of Tin Boy (beating 10 levels without dying). Beating the boss level at the end of certain worlds does not matter.

At first this will seem pretty difficult as the game is brutal. I would suggest first playing through a few of the worlds (dark worlds too, which are unlocked by beating par times for each stage) to get the hang of the platforming. It is precise and if you screw up you will die.

After practicing a bit, (light) WORLD 1 will be the easiest by far - same goes for Tin Boy. The first few levels you cannot die unless you jump off the map and the rest are very simple once you get the hang of the game. I won't write a guide for each level, but I would advise against speed running and simply take your time and it shouldn't be too hard. I personally died 3 times at level 1-20 while going for this. Good Luck!

[EDIT] It sounds as though you do not have to do all 20 levels in order, just beat all 20 levels without dying. Thanks to The Ju1ce for this info.

Btw, I don't think you have to start on the first level of the chapter. You can start on any level, and if you complete all 20 levels in a row without dieing, it should unlock. I was practicing level 20 for a bit until I could get it perfect. Then I started from level 1, and after beating level 19 the achievement unlocked. Obviously this isn't confirmed, but I recommend doing the last few levels first (maybe starting on level 15 or 16), then going back to level 1 and doing the rest.

Yeah, read my comment. Same thing happened to you, I'm sure. It just has to be all 20 levels in a row. Doesn't matter which one start on. It's possible it doesn't even matter if they're in a row either.

I found this was particularly easy to do with Gish, if anyone is having trouble doing it with Meat Boy. Went back after finishing world 3, and got it my second try. If you're struggling, starting from 1-18 or 1-19 and doing the hardest ones first would help, too. :)

I got mine in World 1, going from 1-14 with Meat Boy then changed to Gish for levels15-19. So am guessing you can change characters at any time and still get the achievement, as long as you don't die of course.

Can confirm that the levels don't have to be completed in any order whatsoever as long as all 20 levels are completed before you die. I did (chapter 1) 20, 18-19, 15-17 and then 1-14 in that order and got the achievement after completing level 14.

I read the comments here and I did the levels backwards starting with 20 and then going down until the cheevo popped when I completed level 1. I found it easier because my stress and anger levels were considerably lower doing the hardest ones first.

Yep, last night I did level 1-20 - 1-17 backwards and then did 1-1 through 1-16 and it popped as soon as I loaded up the replay on 1-16. Much better doing the harder ones first.

Can you just replay the first stage 20 times?

@ MikeyJaymz, I am 99% sure you cannot simply play the first level repeatedly. However, you can start at 1-17 or 18 get through 20, then move back to level 1-1 and so on. In my opinion, that is the easiest way.

The tip about not needing to do them in order was very useful. Thanks. I actually did them completely backwards. Started at 1-20 and worked back to 1-1.

Thanks, knowing I could do this out of order saved me a LOT of frustration. 1-20 is a bitch!

I can confirm that the edit is still valid, I just got it at 1-19 after dying in 1-20 and trying it again before restarting

Another suggestion is to do this after completing the dark world for world 1. After practicing in the dark world, completing the light world without dying is a piece of cake. You don't have to worry about any timer or anything either, so just take your time.

It means complete all levels in any order without dying once on any of the levels.

Does it require you to beat a boss?

Sorry, I'm confused, when you say"you don't have to do them in order" does that mean that I have to restart the 20 levels every time I die while doing a run through the world or if I complete a level 1st time once will i not have to complete that level again without dying to get the achievement????

For this achievement, you have to beat an entire chapter consecutively without dying. For example, if you beat level 1-1 without dying, and then die on level 1-2, you need to do level 1-1 over again.

Now, obviously, the easiest world to do is the first world. The only annoyances I see are levels 15, and 18-20. The good thing about this, however, is that you do not need to beat the levels in order, so I started with levels 15-20, and then went through 1-14. This way, you don't have to waste your time going through all of the easy levels until you have the hard ones beaten.

Good point, well made. I was running through the first chapter but kept tripping up on the last few levels. So I did those levels first and then mopped up the first bunch last. This is the best technique if you keep choking on the odd level.

Ok first play the game a little bit and get a little good practice the first chapter and when your you have first do this start at level one on the very first chapter after that just play through the whole chapter without dying simple as that i did it in one try but i can understand that it can be hard for some gamers but its worth unlocking it and hearing that CLICK for a nice 10 points good luck!!!

The Forest is the easiest place to get this, just play from 1-1 to the end of 1-20.

If there is a level you keep getting stuck on, you can finish that first and then do the rest. It doesn't matter which order you do them in (so doing 1-20, then 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, etc. might be easier for you and will still unlock the achievement).
