How to unlock the SMB2 Master achievement in Super Mega Baseball 2 - Definitive Guide

If you're having trouble beating Ego 80 consistently, you can always play at a lower ego like 70 or 75 and then forfeit some games at 99 to bring the average up (as long as you don't miss the playoffs doing so).

Edit: Dantares says you can win 9 games at 67 ego and forfeit 7 games at 99 ego in the regular season while winning 2 games and forfeiting 1 at those same egos in the playoffs and that's good enough to get the achievement. Try to win games against people in the same conference though so you don't risk missing the playoffs.

It's going to take time getting used to timing and aiming your swing at higher difficulties, but here's some miscellaneous tips that should help you win games:

- I'd recommend using a power hitting team (like the Sirloins or Nemesis) over more pitching or defense specialized teams. In this game, it seems good hitting > good pitching.
- I'd also recommend using the power swing almost every time. The difference between the games I used contact swings only and power swings only was very noticeable.
- Try to "paint the corners" with your pitches, especially breaking balls (non-fastballs). That means aim your reticle outside the strike zone but make it so that the arrows point over a corner of the strike zone. You can strike out a lot of batters doing this.
- When there's a runner on 1st base, try to throw low pitches. Batters often "get on top of the ball" and hit a lot of ground balls which you can then turn into a double play. [This tip and the previous one are just common baseball knowledge when pitching in real life but I'm pretty sure these strategies affect CPU batters as well because CPU pitchers have done both of these things to me frequently]
- The Wild Pigs have a catcher with a pretty weak arm. Playing against them, be sure to steal when you've got a fast player on 1st base.
- Try to bat with your pitchers as little as possible. Sub in a pinch hitter when your SP is tired or when you've got a RP at the plate.
- When you do have a pitcher at bat, try to draw a walk. The CPU doesn't seem to treat pitchers as easy outs and often pitches outside the strike zone like they do with other hitters. You could try to intentionally foul off pitches if you've got good timing and then wait for more balls outside the zone.
- When increasing your ego to a difficulty you aren't that comfortable with, try to first do so against a pitcher with a low velocity. They seem to be the easiest to hit off of.
- When fielding a ball, make sure to hold the button of the base you want to throw to before you even get the ball. This saves a lot of time when trying to throw out runners and a lot of pennant race players for some reason don't do this.
- When facing a pitcher with high velocity (on 80 ego), I like to start the power swing right around when the pitcher releases the ball. The lower the velocity rating, the later you start the power swing.

Playing a short season (16 games) plus 9 possible playoff games as it's 3 rounds of best of 3 means you have 25 total games to work with to get an average of 80 ego. In the regular season you should be able to make the playoffs with a record of 9-7. You can play at Ego 67 for your wins. Make sure to win the games against your divisional/conference opponents as this will make it much more likely that you make the playoffs with a 9-7 record. Set it to Ego 99 for the 7 games you choose to forfeit against the teams from the other conference. For each round of the playoffs you need to forfeit 1 of the games at 99 Ego, and then win the remaining 2 games at 67 Ego. After winning the championship your season average will be 79.8 which will round up to 80.

Wins: (9+6)x67 = 1005 total ego
Losses: (7+3)x99 = 990 total ego

This equals 1995 total ego earned for all 25 games of the season. 1995/25 = 79.8 avg which will round up to 80 and earn you the achievement/trophy.

definitely nice to know that you can forfeit the 99 ego games

playing those to completion is beyond painful

Is there a way to assure a win? Like can you quit out if you’re losing I.e. dashboard?

You can abuse the auto-saving after every pitch to dashboard whenever the CPU is about to score to keep them at 0 runs. On offense the last out of the inning goes into a little cutscene so you can dashboard then if you need to. Mainly you just try to squeak out 1-0 wins with a lot of dashboarding if you have a lot of trouble at 67+ ego.

Yeah it should either be added to the solution or even made into its own.

Be aware that it seems like they’ve built something into the code that corrupts your save after too many reloads. It’s happened to me twice now, once 3 hrs in and another 5 hrs in, so it might not be a viable solution after all unless you only do it a small handful of times.

Are you quitting while it says it’s saving? Because that would cause it to mess up.

It also corrupted my save for the second time now and i'm pretty sure i didn't quit while the save thing was spinning. Sucks!

Does it work to change the Ego before starting the game and just prior to the last out for the average?

I did not quit while the save thing was spinning. It's only the season save that gets corrupted too. Everything else is fine. That's what makes me think it's intentional.

And no Uranium Deposit that does not work for the Season Average. It will go off the lowest you had it set during the game.

I'm also thinking something is intentional with it erod. I think it saves only after every pitch and when a new batter comes up so i've always kept an eye on the save spinner. Both of my corrupted saves happened in the playoffs. There's definitely something up with it for sure, a hidden limit or somethin...

I suck at hitting on ego 80. Does it still count if I drop hitting to 60 and just put Fielding and Baserunning up to 90 and leaving pitching at 80?

Would it work if you played co-op and you were at ego 80 and your teammate was at 0?

By YabadabaDrew on 08 May 2018 11:03
@Blackshirt no that doesn’t work because it still takes the lowest ego from that being 60. But if you read the 2nd comment or the guide you’ll see you can play at 67 Ego so u don’t need to be on 80.

@YabadabaDrew That also doesn’t work.

Yeah, I am going to have to play on ego 67 then. I was just going to win try and win half the games on an 80 ego average and sim the others at 99. Then I could drop it to about 50 for playoffs.

Can you use same solution as ego 99 achievement? Set ego to zero then at end of game set it too 99

By jimmyclutchman on 09 May 2018 03:10
No because it always takes the lowest Ego you had during any point in the game.

It's not letting me sim for some reason on 99. Was there a patch?

You don't sim the game at 99. You have to start it and then forfeit.

@damessmeister Interesting idea. Can anyone second this? The highest ego I've won is at 61 ego, i'm working my way up to 67.

I'm using the blowfish and it seems to be working for me. Homeruns are scarce but I land more hits using the blowfish over a high power/lower contact team like the nemesis or sirloins

I used the Sirloins and ended up going 8-8 in the season. Doing it this way you end up with 13 wins at 67 and 11 losses at 99 for a total of 1960 before your last game. This means if you're lucky, you can play your last game at minimum 30 ego which would put you at 1990 total ego, or 79.6 average which should round up to 80.

Flydog92.. Hit the middle guide button. Move over to the game and press start button then go down and highlight Quit. This will send you to the old school dashboard :)

erod550 - I abused the hell out of the dashboard thing you mentioned the whole season and none of my file got corrupted! If I knew they were going to score, I would dashboard immediately and just do it over.

@ Flydog92 - if you use the dashboard technique sparingly (perhaps less than 30 times), then you can probably get away with it. My file did get corrupted, as others have said, using the dashboard technique too many times.

My file got corrupted on the "world series" final game 3 on the 10th inning. I can't fricking believe it.

So annoyed. Finished a season with an average of 80 last night and only got the achievement for finishing a standard season. Clicked back to see what the average says and it even has an 80. Guess I'll have to play another season

Anyone still playing this game and MUST watch out when quitting to dashboard as I just got an unplayable error - everytime I try to start the Season (7 & 5 with average 81) now it just makes the start button noise (like hitting start button a million times in a row ) and then quits out so I had to start a new league - Just a heads up
EDIT: Finally Got it with a regular season 7-9 and won with the +20 runs ahead and was able to finish playoffs at EGO 57 Season average of 80.52 so rounded up to 81 :-)

I lucked out and was able to finish 8-8 and make the playoffs (couldve made it at 7-9 if I knew that before playing the last 2 games :p) with allowed me an extra simmed 99 Ego loss. The teams in the playoffs were alot harder for me so I used some of the Ego overflow to lower the difficulty of playoff games. Its a grind no matter what.

Following on from what 'iTz Canada Ehh' said, I made the playoffs with a record of 8-8. Winning at Ego 67 and losing at Ego 99 allows you to finish the remaining games at an even lower Ego.

You can play each best of three playoff games at Ego 61, Ego 99, and Ego 61 respectively.

I found it easier to play the QF, SF and Final at lower Ego, since I was matched against the Blowfish (Contact Specialists), Freebooters (Bullpen Beasts) and Crocodons (Rotation Aces) respectively. I say it was easier at a lower Ego because the teams in the playoffs seem to have power contact and hitting even if they don't appear to have it.
