How to unlock the SMB3 Season Master achievement in Super Mega Baseball 3 - Definitive Guide

While this achievement will be time consuming and require some moderate level of skill, it's not as bad as it may appear on the surface. In fact, you won't even need to play any games on Ego 80 (sorta), and you can cheese your way through it.

Start a Standard Season (cannot be done in Standard Franchise) and choose a team that you're comfortable with. Personally I like the nice combo of Power and Starting Pitching that you get with the Sirloins, but that's just me. Any team that works for you will work. Choose a Short (16 game) season.

The goal here will be to get your average ego rating to 80 over the course of the season. This includes the 16 regular season games, as well as the (up to) 9 playoff games that will be required to win the championship.

This can be accomplished by playing a mix of some games at 69 (nice) Ego and the rest at 99 Ego. We're going to shoot for going 10-6 in the regular season, since that will almost always guarantee a playoff spot. That means that the 6 games that you intentionally throw can be done at 99 Ego to boost your overall average. The same will go for the playoffs, where we'll win each series 2-1, making sure that our loss is at 99 Ego while our wins are at 69 Ego.

Also important to note before we begin is a cheese tactic that returns from SMB2. If you dashboard out during a play, then quit the game and restart it, the game will resume on the pitch before the play. So if you're about to lose a game, give up a big homerun, etc., you can just dashboard out and try again. Just make sure you do this BEFORE the play is over, so the game doesn't get a chance to save. Like while the ball is in the air about to go over the fence, heading to the gap, etc.

EDIT: As noted by J2B9, this method can corrupt your season save. I personally never encountered this, but it appears that others have. Make sure that you dashboard as early as possible (when the ball is still in the air and hasn't gone over the fence yet, before any runs score on a hit, etc) so the game doesn't have a chance to start its save. Still, others have reported that there is a random chance that this method can corrupt your save. Cheese this at your own risk.

Now that we have the mechanics of how we're going to accomplish this, the actual execution just takes time and patience.

Regular Season:

Start by winning your first 4 games on 69 Ego, using the cheese trick in bold above if needed. This is just to get a feel for your starting rotation and give the rest of the league a chance to start to shake out record-wise.

From here out, you'll need to win 6 more games and lose 6 more games. Before each game, check the opponent's record in the standings and see if you can afford giving them a win. If you're going up against a team that you may be battling for a playoff spot, play the game at 69 Ego and win. If you're going up against a team in the cellar, or running away with the other division in your conference, take this as one of your losses.

For the 6 games that you've decided to throw for a loss, switch the Ego over to 99 before you start the game, and throw your worst reliever in as your SP. Now start the game, play for one pitch, then hit the menu and forfeit.

By the end of the season, you should manage yourself to a 10-6 record. The 10 wins should have been at a 69 Ego, while the 6 losses should have been at a 99 Ego. You should make the playoffs and have an average Ego rating on the Season select screen of 80.

Playoffs

Now the hard part is behind you. In the playoffs, we take a similar approach. Throw the first game of each series for a 99 Ego loss, then win the remaining two games for 69 Ego wins. Do this for each of the three series (winning each with a 99 Ego loss and two 69 Ego wins).

The achievement should pop at the end of the celebration on the final game of the championship.

For reference, the Average Ego math:

[16 Total Wins (10 Reg. Season, 6 Playoff) x 69 Ego + 9 Total Losses (6 Reg. Season, 3 Playoff) x 99 Ego] / 25 Total Games = 79.8 Average Ego

(If you want to take the chance that you'll make the playoffs at 9-7, the math works out that you can play on 67 Ego instead of 69. I just wrote this guide with 69 as the number because that guarantees the achievement and the difference of 2 Ego isn't too large. The risk of having to replay the whole regular season again because you missed the playoffs at 9-7 isn't worth it)

[15 Total Wins (9 Reg. Season, 6 Playoff) x 67 Ego + 10 Total Losses (7 Reg. Season, 3 Playoff) x 99 Ego] / 25 Total Games = 79.8 Average Ego

EDIT: J2B9 confirmed that the game does round up for calculating Ego on this achievement.

It does round up. I went 9-7 and played all the wins at 67 except for 1 at 70 to get an end score that’d be 79.92. I could’ve even made it to the playoffs at 8-8 but it would’ve been a risk because if the two closest cpu teams won both their last 2 games then I would’ve been out. They didn’t, but I wouldn’t have known until I played my last game but it shows that 8-8 is technically possible.
9-7 I’d say should be a guarantee to playoffs as well if you choose to win against the best teams in your division.

As for the dashboard method it’s worth noting that like the 2nd game it has the potential to corrupt your Season mode save. Where when loading back up and clicking the season the loading symbol will freeze and you won’t ever be able to actually get back into your season and be forced to start a new one. There’s no limit on how many times you can quit before this happens but it’s a random possibility so it’s best to use it only when you really have to.

Thanks for confirming that it rounds up. In that case, you only need to play on 69 Ego while going 10-6.

I nearly missed at 9-7 (came down to a tiebreak with two other teams) so I have the guide set as 10-6 just to guarantee the playoff spot. The difference of 2 Ego is pretty negligible and would hate to have to replay that all because of a missed playoff spot. Still, the math to get there at 67 is included.

Added the note about the corruption. Never experienced it personally but it's a good disclaimer.

Well just a heads up, you cannot accomplish this in Standard Franchise mode as one of your 5 seasons, sadly.

Or just play them all at 80. It’s really not that difficult if you’re familiar with the series

EDIT: To answer my own question, the season select screen will show the lower number if your average is anywhere below the next integer. So even if your average is 79.99, it'll show 79 on the season select screen. I was unwilling to risk it so I played the final game at 74 to ensure my average landed at exactly 80.00.

I've been following this method and am now at the start of the World Series. I did 10 wins at 69, followed by 6 losses at 99. In the playoffs, 2 wins at 69 and 1 loss at 99 in each series so far.

My Average Ego rating at the Season select screen shows 79 right now. I'm worried. Did anyone get this achievement and have the same experience? My average is currently 79.91. Once I win the World Series my average will be 79.8
