Has anyone else found that on level 1, whether it be in normal mode or challenge mode, you can never pause the game?

In normal mode, this simply meant I had to beat the level without the pause button. No problem.

In challenge mode, this means that the challenges don't initialize, and cannot be completed. There's no UI telling you how many grabs or jumps you've used, or if you've completed a challenge properly, or not.

This happens on level 1 and 3.

Is this just me?

EDIT:

Even though the challenges don't seem to be 'working' you can still go through them and meet the requirements. Once you finish the level, you can check if they all worked and were marked as completed by looking at the challenge-level-select menu.

I've finished all 4 challenges in level 3 now, but haven't attempted to do all 9 in level one while also lacking the UI. :P

What a broken ass game this is. No collectable are being saved, no soda cans and not even these challenges. WTF is going on

They’ve fixed most of the broken issues with the last update.

At the very beginning of the blackout challenge (5:13 in the video), you can jump past the canisters in a single jump rather than two by coming at them from the right. Just jump between the rightmost of the five top canisters and the wall. This makes the jump around 6:38 a lot easier, since you can burn two jumps there.

for level 4, with only one challenge, you can save a jump by going from the right side. I couldn't figure out what the guy does in the video to only use 2 jumps so I found the extra jump essential to completing it. Ty for vid thumbs up (also thumbs up on the vid for the creator).

Challenge Mode isn't available until you've completed the game at least once. Once done, from the main menu scroll down to Extra Modes and you can choose Challenge Mode. In this mode, you can replay the first eight levels in the game except with added stipulations to some of the puzzles. Each level has a set number of challenges, where you'll be required to clear the same puzzles as in the main game except with significant restrictions on the number of "touches" (interactions with objects) and the number of jumps. This forces you to get a little more creative and definitely more efficient with your object manipulation and resizing. Each challenge saves as soon as it's completed, so there is no need to complete the level once you've completed the last challenge; you can back out to the main menu if you prefer.

In my opinion, most of the challenges are quite easy and straightforward in terms of how to complete them. However, there are a couple tricky ones that might throw you off. If you need any help or simply prefer to follow a guide, the following video shows all challenges in all levels being completed. Full credit to its creator.

Challenge Mode restricts the amount of pick-ups and jumps you can do in a number of rooms throughout the game. You can access the added DLC mode by selecting Extra Modes at the menu screen. As you approach a challenge room you will be given the maximum amount of pick-ups and jumps as you pass through the door and the counter will remain at the top right of the screen as you move through the room.

The challenge should prove easy enough, as you will have already familiarized yourself with the controls and perspective-shifting puzzle elements of the game before gaining access to this mode, but it will force you to think differently about how you approach a few of the challenges, whether to build a ramp to avoid jumping, pick a new route to avoid picking up an item, or a little bit of both.

The number of rooms in each level are as follows:

Induction - 9
Optical - 4
Cubism - 4
Blackout - 1
Clone - 5
Dollhouse - 4
Labyrinth - 2
Whitespace - 3
