How to unlock the Frequent Flyer achievement in Superman Returns - Definitive Guide

You must travel for a total accumulated distance of 10,000 miles. Despite the name of the achievement, the total includes the amount of miles that you walk. However, flying is much faster.

This achievement will take a long time to earn though (I'm talking upwards of 8 hours after you've finished everything else), so it's best to tape down the fast fly button, wrap a rubber band around the left stick and make Superman fly around in circles all night while you get some sleep. With any luck, you should wake up to find the achievement unlocked, assuming your 360 hasn't turned into a charred heap of molten plastic and silicon. Just make sure that you're using either a wired pad or your wireless pad is connected via a play and charge kit, otherwise the pad will automatically turn itself off after about 10 mins.

No, it does shut off. I tried it when first attempting this achievement, much to my annoyance.

I doubt it would shut off since it is performing actions. But there's still a great chance the batteries would die anyway.

Just do the same if you do not have a plug and play. Except do it during the day, check on it every 5-8 minutes and twitch the stick. Then go back about your buisness.

Ah... this marked the first of many times I have left my console on over night for an achievement! Great solution!

What a ridiculous achievement for such a short game. 🙄

I can't really remember (since it's been so long since I last played this game), but I think I tried that and he stops flying when he reaches the edge of the map. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.

Doesn't he slow down as he turns around? Or does he turn around while still flying at super-speed? If he does slow down, I would assume flying in circles is faster.

Yea he does slow down, so maybe it is faster in circles. Glad this is out of the way anyhow . . . lol

regardless, you might make it 5-10minutes faster one way or the other. In the end it will still take hours and hours and hours. Unless you are on a speed run to hit 1000 GS?

Like drabik, I just set it up so that he was flying from one side of the map to another. I did so by flying up very high (so as not to hit any buildings) and putting an elastic such that it was holding down the fly fast button (RB). I came back over 8 hours later and it was done.

StarlinX is correct. Who cares if you shave 30 minutes off when you're just leaving it running overnight. This was some poor planning on the part of the game makers. If it weren't for wanting to get the achievements I would never have played this weak game. I was nowhere near the 10,000 miles by the time I finished the rest of the achievements. They are delusional if they think anyone would want to play this turd for hours after they finished it. Play and charge kit + a couple of rubber bands = this achievement.

What is the solution if youdont have a charge and play kit?

Unfortunately, if you don't have a way of making your controller not auto disconnect, such as a wired controller, or play and charge kit, you're just going to have to grind this out manually. I feel for you, man.

Also make sure you turn off vibration on the controller aswell.

I read somewhere that it's easier to fly up really high then just allow superman to fly from one side of the island to the other. Once he reaches the end of the map, he turns around and starts flying again. I think this might be slightly quicker, but I can't be bothered to check the stats (miles travelled per hour).

Once he reaches the edge of the map, he turns round and starts flying again in the opposite direction. I just did the achievement this way, but didn't really time it to see which was quicker.

Here is another installment of ShutTheCakeHole's Math Time:

In doing some calculations, here is the approx. time and travel as you circumvent the map:

Times for 3 laps:
Lap 1 - 3:00.3
Lap 2 - 2:59.8
Lap 3 - 3:02.2
Average time for a round trip - 3:00.1

A lap is equal to the outer rim of the map.

Text description: start at the tanker in the south tip of the map (industrial area), head west and round the cape where there is a lot of boats docked by two docking stations, round the cape and head east right by the steep incline of the city and outer highway, sightly veer to the right to round the eastern most island (connected by a 'Golden Gate Bridge' type bridge), with a wide round about line up with the industrial island in the distance and following the coast, finish off back at the tip of the tanker - 1 lap.

Total distance traveled for a single lap around the city (sea level) - 40.25 miles. (approx.)
Number of laps total for the entire 10,000 miles - 249 laps (approx.)
Taking in the consideration the time for a lap multiplied by the number of laps it takes for total distance (rounding):

3:00 minutes X 250 laps = 12:30 hours/minutes total time for achievement.

This has been another installment of ShutTheCakeHole's Math Time. Please be aware this is approx. values and is only used to give you an idea on how long it takes to get this achievement, out-of-box. Usually, round about 1500 miles is achieved through normal game play plus the walking time (100 miles approx. for game play). This leaves around 8,400 miles left for flying 10:26 hours/minutes left. As a completionist, I know the answer to the question - here goes. Is it really worth 10 hours and 26 minutes for 30 point gamer score? Yes.

Additional note: It is actually 60 gamer score guarantee - With 30 points for this achievement, 30 additional points are added due to time.

Hope this helped with your decision. Cheers and good luck!

Thank you for the math. I just went in circles for several hours and had to do it manually due to not having a plugged-in controller, but the math here helped me split my time into chunks!

The odd thing about this achievement is that you don't actually have to fly all 10,000 miles to get it, it also counts any miles that you walk.

So I recommend beating the game first and getting those miles added on. Then, in the post-game chapter, use rubber bands to hold the right stick so it's rotating the camera around superman. Then put tape down (scotch tape works fine) over the to go as fast as possible. I also recommend using a rubber band to pull the forward, just in case the tape over the comes off.

Go to sleep, and you should be there or nearly there when you wake up.
