How to unlock the A Better Planet achievement in Surviving Mars - Definitive Guide

First things first you need Earth sick colonists.

Build a dome
Add in housing and a farm
Land colonists

After a while you should get a notification that one or more colonists are Earth sick (i ended up with 20 pretty easily).

Now add in any building that adds comfort
Open Air Gym
Casino
Space Bar
Art workshop

Just check the service comfort field when looking through the build menu.

I build the following:
Open air gym
Diner
Infirmary
Nursery
School
Space Bar

After a while the achievement popped and the colonists wanting to leave decreased.
If you're struggling just keep adding buildings that increase the service comfort and wait a little while, it takes time for them to change their mind about leaving.

Also, not that the colonist can't decide to leave if no rockets land for them to board. If you can manage to survive long enough without any rockets landing with supplies or new colonists, then you have plenty of time to bring them back up to sufficient comfort.

I tried a few things and I ran into the same problem every time. Earthsick colonists do not want to work! If everyone just wanders around moping the various Services won't get any workers and no one will get any better. Even with passive decorations and gyms, it was never enough for the colonists to increase the Comfort back up above 65 in a reasonable amount of time.

For this method you will need one dome filled with Hippies, one dome filled with Yuppies, and the CO2 Jet Propulsion (Robotics) technology. You will also need to know how to set up a self sustaining Basic Dome, namely:

- Use the Rocket Scientist profile
- Choose an easy map like Elysium Alpha and Beta
- Bring Polymers and Machine Parts with you with the first trip (20 or more of each)
- Prefab a Moisture Vaporator and Fuel Refinery (for fuel and water)
- Build solar panels and a MOXIE (for power and oxygen)
- Start up a Concrete Extractor to build the dome
- Gather surface Metals with the transporter
- If you are bringing Drone Hubs with you make sure to bring Electronics also

1. Build your first Basic Dome and put in a Farm and Living Quarters. You can also ship some Food up with your first rocket if you have some room. This is your Hippie Dome.
2. The Hippie Dome will be populated with as many Botanists as you can find in the roster so send them now. Put in a Grocer, Diner, Infirmary, and anything else if the Comfort start dipping here.
3. Once the first dome is stable prepare the second Yuppie Dome halfway across the map. It is important to build it far enough away that the colonists are not tempted to run outside to change their Home residence
4. Build the second Basic Dome for the Yuppies but ONLY with a Farm and some places to live, not with any of the comforts from home
5. For the Yuppie Dome pick all the Medics and fill out the rest of the 12 passengers with Alcoholics and people who like Shopping and Luxury.
6. With only Farm work available it won't take long for all the colonists to become Earthsick here
7. When they get depressed and start pining for home build them a Grocery, Diner, Infirmary, Spacebar, Open Air Gym, Art Store, and fill the remain build spots with Decorations
8. You will notice that all the Services are ignored because there are no workers. This is where you will send half the colonists from the Hippie Dome over to the Yuppie Dome.
9. Build a Shuttle Hub near the Hippie Dome and set the Hippie Dome Colonist preferences to something that will kick out half the colonists. I chose to Dislike Female colonists and the Shuttles started moving all the Ladies to the Yuppie Dome.
10. Since the Services are ready for business they are only missing workers. The incoming people from the Hippie Dome will start fulfilling the Luxury and Shopping and improve the morale of everyone in the Yuppie dome.
11. Wait a few Sols and the Comfort should go back up to 65 to trigger the achievement.

If you have a dome with an earthsick colonist build service buildings in the dome to increase comfort. It may not work the first time. It took me until my third earthsick colonist to get one to stay.

Only Colonists from Earth can become Earthsick. They become Earthsick when their Comfort level drops below 20. If a Rocket arrives while the Colonist is Earthsick, he will board that Rocket and return to Earth and is lost forever. To keep the Colonist on Mars, do not call for any Rocket resupplies and work to increase the Colonist’s Comfort by inspecting his Interests and building the complementary service buildings.

I created a separate mini-dome for the elderly. They were forbidden to live in the rest. The dome contained only housing for the elderly. On raw food and without entertainment, they began to feel sad and flew to Earth.
He took one yearning person and allowed him to live in an ordinary dome. During the same sol I received a trophy.
