How to unlock the A Shooting Star achievement in Surviving Mars - Definitive Guide

Very simple, but typically a later game occurrence. All you need is to build the MDS Laser and wait for a meteor to fall in its range.

You can enhance the chance of them falling on your colony by using the "Capture Meteor" Planetary Expedition.

You'll need to research the Meteor Defense System technology under the Physics research tree in order to be able to build MDS Lasers.

MDS Lasers cover a radius of 20 hexes, require 15 metal and 5 electronics to build and require 10 units of power to run, so make sure you have adequate materials before building.

Build as many as you can around your colony as they help aid shooting down meteorites. Once you have your colony covered, it's just a matter of waiting for a meteor shower to rain down on your colony, then your MDS Lasers should shoot one down.

You must not enable the "No Disasters" Game Rule to unlock this trophy, otherwise it disables all Meteor Storms which is required for this trophy. To shoot down a meteorite, you need to research the “Meteor Defense System” technology in the Robotics tech-tree. Build a Sensor Tower and you’ll receive early warnings of where Meteor Storms will occur. Quickly head over to the sector and build the MDS Laser and it’ll shoot down a Meteor.

Alternatively, if you are doing the “Marsgate” mystery, you can repair one of EsoCorps’ rovers during the attack and you need to choose to keep the rover at the end of the mystery. These rovers are mobile and function exactly like the MDS Laser building.
