How to unlock the Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? achievement in Surviving Mars - Definitive Guide

Biorobots are available after researching the Positronic Brain in the Breakthroughs list.

Breakthrough technologies are denoted by the yellow anomalies with magnifying glasses on them when you scan a sector. These then need analysing by Explorer Rovers before showing on the research page.

There are 55 Breakthroughs but only 18 available (randomised) per map (excluding mystery specific technologies). Through my experience 15 are scannable and the last 3 obtained by building the Omega Telescope wonder.

Once Positronic Brain is researched you can build a Biorobot at the Drone Assembler for 5 electronics each (or 5 metal if you have the breakthrough that makes drones buildable with metal instead). That means 250 electronics (or metal) is required for 50 biorobots. You can order in electronics on shuttles in exchange for cash to speed things up but you still need to wait for a Drone Assembler (12 colonists for max ouput) to actually build them.

An easy way to get them all in one dome is to quarantine all but one dome (or only have one) and they will fill it up. Bear in mind they don't reproduce or die of old age, buy can still die from lack of o2/water/food, chronic conditions, and suicide as well as have flaws and perks like normal colonists. So keep them fed, housed and happy. Jobs are not neccesary for happy colonists.

They also have the Martianborn trait, so any research that applies bonuses to them apply to Biorobots making them extremely useful.

The hardest thing about this achievement is actually unlocking The Positronic Brain breakthrough. I'd played around 8 games and hadn't discovered it once.

Then I found this site - http://survivingmaps.com/

Here you can find map co-ordinates based off resources, disasters etc. but most importantly you can specify a breakthrough and it'll then give you the map co-ordinates where you can unlock this tech! (Not sure how reliable it is but I got it on the 1st map I used)
I played at 4S 110E and Positronic Brain was about the 3rd breakthrough that I unlocked.

I recomend playing with fast scanning enabled (As well as other preferable options that don't disable achievements; fast rockets, extra production, prefab colony & extra applicants)

Once you've unlocked it you then need to build the Drone Assembler which needs 5 electronics to make 1 biorobot (On the above map it also had the breakthrough to make them from 5 normal metal instead)

Build at least 50 across your Drone Assemblers and then designate a dome for the biorobots. When you filter by traits Biorobots are listed under Perks. Enable it in a dome with at least 50 vacant homes and then deny that perk on all of your other domes and this should pop once the 50th moves into the dome!

Edit: Just played another map from the website with Positronic Brain (5N 114E) and I discovered the breakthrough fairly quickly so the website seems fairly reliable!

To Able To Go For This Achievement, You Must Get This One First:
Surviving MarsThe Positronic ManThe The Positronic Man achievement in Surviving Mars worth 29 pointsHave a Biorobot Colonist

You Can Filter Traits For Colonists That Can Live In A Dome
- Biorobot Colonists Have The Biorobot Trait, So "Thumbs Up" It For One Dome And "Thumbs Down" It In All Your Other Ones.
- Traits Can Be Assigned To Domes From The UI That Pops Up, After You Click On A Dome.

This Forces Them All To Live In The Same Dome, And Keeps Other People From Migrating There.
Achievement Pops When 50 Of Them Are All Built And Living There.

Good Luck!

Just wait until you find the Positronic Brain breakthrough on a playthrough and build 50 biorobots in your drone assembler. They'll go into the dome the colonists manning the assembler are from. The only hard part is the luck of finding the breakthrough. It took me 5 playthroughs to finally get it.

Just to add to this, this was the last trophy I got because despite countless playthrough's, the breakthrough never came through. I was always using a familiar map which didn't allow for it.

On my first use of co-ordinates 0S27E it came up from an inter-planetary breakthrough. Horrible map mind, comets are a serious problem, but hell I'll take a battering just to get this.

Biorobot Colonists can be constructed in the Drone Assembler once you have researched the breakthrough technology “The Positronic Brain”. You can discover a maximum of 19 out of 55 Breakthrough techs per playthrough, and the order you receive them is randomized but if you always pick the same location to start the game, it will always give you the same 19 techs but in random order, so this is somewhat luck based, therefore it is better if you start a new game without any Mystery selected as Mysteries usually will take up 2 of the 19 breakthrough technologies. If you did not get these breakthrough techs on a playthrough, then you must pick a different location to start the game the next time.

Analysing Anomalies throughout the map with RC Explorers will grant a chance for up to approximately 15 breakthrough technologies to be discovered depending on how many Anomalies there are on the map, whereas the wonder The Omega Telescope will reveal the rest of the breakthrough technologies that have not been discovered, up to the maximum of 19 per playthrough as mentioned above.

In the Dome management infopanel, you can filter what traits of Colonists that can inhabit the particular Dome, and Biorobot Colonists will have the Biorobot trait, so pick that trait as favourable in one single Dome and remember to pick the Biorobot trait as unfavourable in all other Domes. Biorobot Colonists eat and sleep similar to normal Colonists, but they do not age or reproduce.
