How to unlock the Dream of a Green Mars achievement in Surviving Mars - Definitive Guide

The Vegan quirk is a random trait that could potentially be spread by Gurus in the same dome. Considering other achievements in this game, however, I found the easiest solution to be to build up a colony to be self-sustaining (all wonders + copious amounts of drones and shuttles to automate 99% of the work) and then build many, many domes with many, many farms and just leave the game running.

I progressed 40 Sols over about 3 hours and my population went from 2100ish to about 3400ish. With so many factories and production facilities going I never wanted for resources. Drones took care of the rest. When I saved, I popped both this and the Post Human achievement (have a colonist with 2 rare traits):

For simplicity, if you really want to gun for this, select the International Mars Mission and choose a low difficulty landing site. That will equip you with the easiest environment to build up a self-sustaining colony. This achievement in particular is strictly a numbers game, so gun for that massive colony size.

To speed this up, you can take advantage of the 'Game Rules' when setting up your game. The rule you specifically want is 'More Applicants'. This will give you a much larger pool of colonists to choose from, and as a result more vegans.

Once you set your basic filters on the colonist rocket you can choose individual colonists by pressing RT and then using the d-pad to give them a thumbs up - this will let you specifically choose only the vegans.

Confirmed at time of writing that the More Applicants rule doesn't stop you getting achievements

it's easier with the blue sun corporation because you can buy applicants. Once you have enough funds you can buy so many applicants that you will get your vegans in no time.

Fuuldrin's comment is a solution in itself.

I as well. Got this around 2000 colonists. As it's said. This one is strictly a numbers game. About sol 190cfor me.

After I had my endgame savegame with wonders and all selfsustaining, I used my 6 rockets for Tourists only. Tourists stay for 5 sols, will never get a job and will return to earth with the next possible rocket after 5 sols. When a tourist returns to earth, a lot more new tourists are added to the pool. After a while I had over 1500 tourists waiting on earth. The moment I decided to do this achievement I had 152 vegan tourists waiting on earth, so this was incredible easy ^^

After they all arrived I had 230 vegans. The achievement didn’t unlock for a few minutes, but at the beginning of the next sol .

Maybe this helps someone :)

This is a numbers game plain and simple. I got this in a long game to unlock all the miscellaneous trophies. Vegans will appear randomly through births or if you get a guru who has the trait (I've only ever gotten one guru in all my games though so don't bank on it). My population was well over 3,000 by the time I got the 200 vegans in the colony.

You can also bring in vegan colonists, but that will only help the process not be able to complete it. You'll need to let the population build naturally.

This achievement is easier to get with Blue Sun Corporation, as they can buy new applicants.

Setup a colony where you can export rare metals automatically. Once you have enough money, spam the 'buy applicants' option until you can fill your rockets with vegans. You can check how many vegans are available with the quirk filter.

Apparently, the game checks for this achievement when one of your colonists get a new trait, so you may have to wait a little after you reached 200. The morpheus project or other technologies that give new traits may speed up this phase.

Good luck

- I think Vegan is a rare trait so getting the breakthrough 'Gene Selection' could help
- Create a massive colony in an end game state (everything researched, all wonders built)
- I had over 2800 colonists and was on Sol 172 before getting 200 vegans
- You can check how many Vegans you have in the Command Center (hotkey 'Z') and filtering to Quirk: Vegan
- This achievement did not unlock immediately for me when reaching 200 in the Command Center, it unlocked around 2 sols later so I am not sure the exact condition it requires.

Time Saver: Do this together with Multiplanet Species and S.P.E.C.I.A.L

Vegans are a type of trait classified as 'Quirks'. There's no way of cultivating this perk in your Colonists so you'll be dependent on the randomness of traits assigned to Colonist whether through bringing in applicants from Earth or children born on Mars. Therefore, you'll want to build up your Colony and have as many Domes as possible to accommodate potentially up to 2000+ Colonists.

During your playthrough, you can filter and select Colonists coming in through the resupply menu to have the "Vegan" trait. Build Medical Centers in your Domes, research technologies such as Stem Reconstruction (Biotech) and Holographic Scanning (Biotech), Keep bringing in Colonists, maintain a population with high birth rates and you'll reach 200 Vegans eventually.

Dropped in a population of 2.3k. 330 sol, and there were already about 220 vegans. The game may not react immediately due to the abundance of buildings.
