How to unlock the Gagarin's Legacy achievement in Surviving Mars - Definitive Guide

Not as bad as I thought. Water counts for this which makes it far easier.

Find a place with a large amount of metal and water. Just extractor the water and build water tanks. Whenthe tank is full destroy it then remake it. I used most of my funds to drop in machine parts to keep the extractors working.

To speed it up a bit you can take the starting class that gives fueled extractors and take a fuel refinery prefab with you.

Didn't think water would count but it did.

Thanks for posting the solution about using water. Appreciate the guidance. I got this by sol 68. By that point, I had 3 water extractors with 4 water tanks each so that helped to speed up the process as well. Took around 2 hours for me.

Wow, that's a good idea. I had a really bad start point in the map (on a plateau with no water deposit), Sol 50 and I'm starting to get somewhere, but this will help get there.

Thanks

Good idea is to try 2N173E. It's full of water. It's easy to build simple colony that produces machine parts.

Russia gets Fuelled Extractors by default, it's not related to which Commander profile you choose.

Does concrete count then also?

Water counts for this, so that's the easiest thing to get for the bulk of this.

What I did was set up a couple concrete extractors to get concrete and then water extractors connected to fuel refineries. I did the fueled extractor upgrade (which is unlocked playing as Russia) so the water fed into the fuel refineries which fed fuel into rockets and the extractors to make a cycle of consuming water.

When I was able to I also built 30 water tanks to let the water extractors pump at full force which dramatically sped things up.

Pick Russia as your mission sponsor when starting a new game. After setting up your Colony and ensuring you’ve got all the essentials covered through production (metals, food, polymers), you’ll want to focus on aggressive expansion and sufficient power for extractors. One of the easiest resources to extract are Concrete and Water as they do not need Colonists to staff them, and you can build as many depots as you want to store the excess resources. Supplement that with your Colony’s expansion and secure Metals and Rare Metals to produce Machine Parts and Electronic for building maintenance or build Research Labs to unlock technologies that boost resource mining/production.

The trophy can be obtained by pumping out all the water from the well; it contains about 10,000 liters. We build as many aqua extractors as possible around one source, then we attach water storage tanks to it. As they fill up, we tear them down and build new ones. It is better to have a dome specializing in metal mining and spare parts production.
