How to unlock the Asteroid Hopping achievement in Surviving Mars - Definitive Guide
To unlock this achievement you need to send an Asteroid Lander from one asteroid to another until you have landed on the 10th asteroid, then send the lander back to Mars. The achievement unlocks once you have landed back on Mars. Here's a couple tips and tricks from my run.
- Use at least 2 Asteroid Landers, 3 worked really well for me, one or two to shuttle fuel and materials back and forth for the Lander that is hopping.
- Research and upgrade the landers to double their cargo capacity, this makes it easier to move enough fuel.
- You can combine this with regular asteroid mining, just use the shuttle lander to return the valuables back to mars when it goes for fuel runs.
- Researching ReFab makes it quick and easy to pack up buildings to transport from Asteroid to Asteroid.
- Make sure you have enough Recon Buildings on Mars to consistently have 2 - 3 Asteroids in orbit, my game seemed to cap out at 3 Asteroids available at a time and I had 5 Recon buildings with the Upgrade installed.
- Make sure you are producing fuel on mars quickly enough, upgraded landers can hold 150,000 kgs of payload, which works out to about 170 Fuel and each upgraded lander takes 35 fuel to fly so this will take a minimum of 385 fuel just for the lander that is hopping plus fuel to the other landers that are acting as transports.
- Make sure you have enough time to load and launch your landers before an asteroid leaves the planet, I would start loading and prepping landers with 2 - 3 sols left on the timer.
It may be possible to abandon an asteroid and get a new one quickly, I never tested this as I was mining as I went but if someone did this please leave a comment below. Good Luck everyone!
