How to unlock the For the Benefit of All achievement in Surviving Mars - Definitive Guide

Starting a new game I chose Politician for the leader.

You need to keep your research high throughout to get this, I mainly used outsourcing to keep the overall outsourcing level in a decent place.

To begin with I kept it at 1,000 per SOL once through the initial few research items I stepped up to 1,500 per SOL for most of the game, stepping up to 2,000 for the final three items in the tree. Try to maintain a balance while keeping some cash for emergencies.

Start by researching the Explorer Ai talent for an extra boost on your research and then stick to the Engineering tree.

Timeline to track your progress:
SOL 15 8 Research items unlocked, research increased to 1,500 per SOL
SOL 25 11 Research items unlocked, Dome being built
SOL 29 Landed colonists, started building research lab and mining export materials
SOL 35 13 Researched items unlocked, research at 1,500 per SOL
SOL 50 4 Research items left to unlock
SOL 56 3 Research items remain, each one is 20,000 Research increased to 2,000
SOL 65 2 Research items remain
SOL 74 1 Research item remains
SOL 85 Achievement popped

Tips:
Scan sectors and anomalies as soon as you can for extra research
Build at least two research labs when you comfortably can
Place your research labs, export ship and rare materials extractor on high priority
Keep checking you research screen - Outsourcing will drop and you will need to top it up
I didn't bother but you can buy more explorers to increase your research
You can research (on the social tree) Mars crowdfunding and Earth - Mars initiative for more money and research but I stuck to the engineering tree instead

Finally when building the dome if you build a medium one and an Arcology tower you'll get

Surviving MarsIn the High TowerThe In the High Tower achievement in Surviving Mars worth 5 pointsBuild a Dome Spire

The tree randomises each new game so you may not be able to.

Once popped I recommend you keep playing and aim for
Surviving MarsThe BeanstalkThe The Beanstalk achievement in Surviving Mars worth 29 pointsBuild the Space Elevator

This solution was great. In my experience, I had zero rare metal exports and I worried it would slow me down. Early on, however, I discovered the breakthrough tech Alien Imprints. It created new anomalies around the map (discovered without scanning) and each of them reduced my total science required for each tech by 5%. This helped me save a ton of time and get the final Engineering tech around Sol 73.

All of my money went to outsourcing with the occasional $400/500M going to importing metal parts and electronics from Earth.

Also, because the tooltips aren't updated - as the Politician commander, you ARE getting the bonus money each time the USA sponsor effect happens. It just doesn't show the correct amount in the tooltip that appears. You will receive $600M every few Sols.

+1 for the Alien Imprints. I just kept restarting my map until I got the breaththrough tech I wanted. Took about half an hour but it makes this achievement must easier to do.

Just want to add my own to this, both of the two aforementioned guides helped me no end, but the biggest help came from altering the game rules.

If you have Prefab Colony, Fast Rockets, Fast Scanning, More Applicants, No Disasters as game rules, trophies are still enabled and you can have a colony up and running within 3 sols.

If you pick the map with coordinates 7N 171E, there's two areas next to each other with a research boosting plot of land. Use the 2 initial probes to scan A1 (concrete) and A2 (water), then normal scan B1 to open up the research area. There's a ton of metal on the floor you can harvest first, then drop your dome on a research site.

For this you're going to want to concentrate on research. Build research labs, bring in scientists, and export rare metals to outsource research. Pouring all of my efforts into boosting research it took me until between sol 70 and 80 to get it.

In order to unlock this Trophy, you need to complete the Engineering tech-tree before Sol 100 whilst playing as the USA. Although you have 100 Sols, your main priority should be your research output. You can prioritise this through a number of ways:

Whenever you discover an anomaly, whether it's a Breakthrough, Research Boost or Event, scan them immediately with an Explorer. Often the reward will assist you in some way towards this Trophy.

Speaking of the Explorer, each Unit itself grants a 100 Research Bonus. It might be a good idea to buy or, if possible, create multiple Explorer Units to supplement your Research output. However, you need to pay attention to the possible Collaboration Loss. In Surviving Mars, when you have more than one Research producing Unit or Building, they work together. This means that you increase your output but there is also a Collaboration loss amount. This loss extends to the Explorer Units. Therefore, if you are going to acquire multiple Explorers, you are better off aiming for a total of 3 Explorer Units or 7 Units. This is because of the increase in Collaboration Loss that comes with having 4, 5 or 6 Units outweighs the increase in Research Output. Now, since you only have 100 Sols in order to reach the end of the Engineering tree, you're better off aiming for only a maximum of 3 Explorer Units.

One of the benefits of playing as the USA, you will receive 500m in funding periodically. I personally used this funding to Outsource and always keep my Research output at around 1000 for the first 40 Sols.

Aim to create a Dome around Sol 20 and make sure that one of the Buildings in your first Dome is a Research Lab, along with Scientists to work there. Once the Founder Stage is over, you'll want to increase the number of Colonists and Research Labs where possible, in other Domes if possible. You should have enough time in order to create up to 3 Domes with a Research Lab in each. The Science/Hawking Institute does offer a better Research Output, however, I found that taking the time to research the building in the Social tech-tree took too long and wasn't worth the increase as I reached Sol 100 and still had one more tech in Engineering to research.

One final tip that I believed helped me, was to disregard many of the problems that came up with Colonists. The priority was Research, not building Casinos, Space Bars and so on trying to keep everyone happy. Once you're near the end of researching the last of the Engineering technologies, don't worry about broken Solar Panels and Empty Water Deposits.

Once you have finished Researching the last Technology in the Engineering tree before Sol 100, you will have met the requirements and the Trophy will unlock.

Pick USA as your mission sponsor when starting a new game. USA pays well for exported Rare Metals and gives you periodic funding, make use of that to outsource research from the get go.

After setting up your Colony and ensuring you’ve got all the essentials covered through production (metals, food, polymers), start building Research Labs and focus all your research in the Engineering tech-tree unless you really need a tech in the other tech-trees for optimization or to boost your research. You can use RC Explorers to analyse Anomalies and unlock more technologies for research ahead of time.

Once you have 3-4 Research Labs running on 2 shifts each, you’ll want to start building Science Institutes (unlocked in Social tech-tree) because any more Research Labs will not results in gains due to diminishing returns as a result of the ‘collaboration loss’ ingame mechanic.
