How to unlock the Sentience 2.0 achievement in Surviving Mars - Definitive Guide
(I have every research completed, save for repeatable monetary ones, and a total of 7 Network Nodes, gaining about 20,000 research per sol.)
*Update: The AI has granted me 2000 research, and is now threatening to turn hostile.
*Update 2: I now have drones attacking citizens and critical systems.
*Update 3: I now have the option to research a new item that would allow me to find the AI's physical location, and the drone attacks are now more intense.
*Update 4: Having finished the research, I'm now made to go explore 10 anomalies on the map, with each one sabotaging my explorers, and sending another wave of rogue drones. A tedious process of repair/recharge/analyze.
*Completion Update: I think I should have purged it to begin with. After finally finishing the anomalies, I've been given the option to purge again, or leave the AI to run on an isolated server forever. Being a cruel bastard, I've made it run forever in containment. I've been granted a research breakthrough called (Service Bots) which grants all service buildings to no longer require workers. NICE.
I also got a different Breakthrough reward at the end.

This is...the most annoying mystery in the game.
Once you reach 100 colonists you will be contacted to build a network node. Do so. And be prepared to build two more. Which means three domes dedicated to having network nodes. Build the other two domes, but don't put up the nodes until prompted.
After several dialogue portions you will be given the choice to free the AI and purge it. I would suggest purging it. Both options lead to the exact same consequence, just purging it gets you there faster.
The AI will then start taking control of drones and blowing up your infrastructure buildings. Keep repairing them and research Number Six Tracing breakthrough.
Once you research the breakthrough 10 anomalies will pop up across the map. Take your explorer to analyze them. Each time you analyze one of the anomalies it will cause your explorer rover to break down so have your command rover follow the explorer rover to repair it after each analysis. And while you're doing that micromanagement the AI will continue to take over drones and blow up your water and oxygen infrastructure, so you need to keep going back to your colony to repair those.
Once you've analyzed all 10 anomalies the mystery will mercifully end with an option to isolate and preserve the AI or wipe it.
Pick “Artificial Intelligence” mystery when you start a new game. The mystery triggers automatically after a set amount of time (approximately 30 Sols) and culminate in 1 of 2 possible outcomes depending on your actions. The trophy unlocks no matter what the outcome.
Recommendations:
1) When starting a new game, ideally choose a location which has a “relatively flat” topography
2) To prepare for this mystery, you’ll need to have 2-3 Domes for this, in order to build Network Node spires that are required for progressing the mystery once triggered.
3) You should stockpile food/water/O2 in depots & storage tanks and be prepared to rebuild some essential structures that could be destroyed due to scripted events: moisture evaporators, MOXIE, fungal farms etc.
4) Have a couple of RC Explorers and make sure they can access all the different elevations all over the map to speed up the end step.
In the early stage, you’ll be asked to build Network Nodes and you’ll receive funding rewards for each one built. After a while, the AI will go rogue, and drones will start destroying some of your essential structures (moisture vaporators, MOXIE, fungal farms etc). You need to research the “Number Six Tracing” technology and anomalies will appear all over the map, the anomalies with an eye as the symbol are the ones you want. You can look at the anomaly tooltip and it will mention something related to the mystery. You will want to analyse all these anomalies with RC Explorers as quickly as you can because drones will be attacking your structures periodically until all the anomalies are cleared. At the end step, your choice affects only the type of reward that you’ll receive.
There are no drones, no problems, well, the colonists will starve one sol, something will fall into disrepair... It’s easier to fix than restoring half the base. Anomalies are investigated fairly quickly.
