How to unlock the Diplomat achievement in Surviving the Aftermath - Definitive Guide
Once I realized what this entailed, I realized I'd wasted a lot of time not working toward this sooner.
You need to build up to 1000 reputation with 5 societies. It isn't as hard as it sounds.
(Edit: apparently the number of societies on a map is random. May want to explore your world as soon as possible to make sure you have 5 in yours. I didn't have much reason to keep my players in camp, so they can just explore once you find them.)
Build 3 trade centers (I didn't realize at first that you can have more than one), and constantly have them making trade runs. Start the next run as soon as the last one gets back. The KEY is to trade the ones with the gold scales symbol. Avoid the red ones. This applies to buying goods, too. Buying their items with gold scales also directly increases your reputation.
If you've sent scavengers out for fun boxes early in the game, these can be traded for a lot, and help you move this along. This is especially good since once you have enough for your entertainment buildings, you'll still be automatically collecting them.
Then it's a case of letting the trade runs play out. Personally, I stopped trading with a society once I hit 1000 with that group.
Hope this helps!

Seriously?? I had 6 on my map. I was playing on the easiest difficulty across the board. Maybe that affects it?

In total, while traveling you can meet just 5 more settlements. When you research Barter in the technology tree, you can build the Trade Center building. Reputation is upgraded by selling or buying with an open settlement goods with a special icon in the form of yellow scales. The trade menu opens through the "down" button - the Communities section.

To quickly accumulate reputation, 2-3 Trade Centers are enough; send caravans immediately upon return, then you won’t have to finish the game after 365 days.
