In the level menu for 50 points you buy an upgrade that shows more information about the level, one upgrade is enough - the time required to get gold is shown, just beat this time; it is advisable to go through it on the fifth ship.

On Orion from DLS you can walk through it almost with your eyes closed

Play on the last ship with all upgrades. After the middle of the game, the levels will become noticeably more difficult and it makes sense to buy a Barrier pass of each color in order to insure against several mistakes and loss of speed.
