-Qiaoling
You start with this Spirit.
-Hazhan
Story-related Spirit, unlocked after defeating it during the story.
-Yun’er
You have to clear the side-quest "Legacy". After main mission of getting Hazhan Spirit, walk outside in the Howling Canyon and she will be there on the left. Talk to her and you will unlock her.
-Chenfeng
Story-related Spirit, unlocked after defeating it during the story.
-Gubai
I read that you need to accept the "Pine and Cypress" quest after talking to grandpa in Mingshu Sect. He will mention something about a spirit during the story, but i don't know if this part if required. Later, during Chapter 20 you will visit " Upper of Duzhang Spring". At the north-western corner you can see a small cave. Clear the vine trapping Gubai, and he will run away. After clearing the main mission, go to the Flora Cliff to find him across the bridge, and then on the right.
-Shengyan
Story-related Spirit, unlocked after defeating it during the story.
-Shanzhu
Talk to the fairy NPC after the bridge in Flora Cliff to get the quest "Five Poison" (you might need to complete the main mission in that area first to unlock the quest). Do the quest (Some parts are unavailable until you progress the main story a bit, last location is Changbai Mountain) and she will join you.
This last one is not needed for the achievement,
also not needed for all abilities achievement.
-Xiaoqui - Last 8th Spirit
Beat all 15 Card mini-game opponents, and all 7 Leaf jumping challenges. Return to Mingshu Sect, enter Yue's room and talk to the NPC in there. The NPC will reward you for completing all challenges and it will join you.

I freed Gubai, but he is not there in Flora Cliff after clearing Duzhang Spring. I even checked his original cave and he isn't there either. What do I do?

Just keep doing a bit of the story then travel back to Flora Cliff and he should turn up at some point, good luck.

The, Pants, Party
There are seven spirit beasts required for this achievement. A hidden eighth beast can be unlocked by completing all the jumping puzzles, but is not needed. The list below has the names and unlock requirements of all seven spirits:
- Qiaoling - story related
- Hazhan - story related
- Yun’er - complete the side-quest "Legacy" in Howling Canyon
- Chenfeng - story related
- Gubai - accept the "Pine and Cypress" quest in Mingu Sect, then find the deer trapped in the NW corner of the "Upper of Duzhang Spring" and find the deer a second time after it runs away in Flora Cliff.
- Shengyan - story related
- Shanzhu - complete the side-quest "Five Poison" Flora Cliff
