Branch tasks are side-quests. They are marked as "!" on the map and they are usually short. Simply follow the "?" icons after activating quests to finish them.

Branch Tasks are the term they use for side-quests in this game. There are many dozens of these in the game, so it is likely you will unlock this fairly early on. You should be doing every side-quest you find to ensure you can hit Level 40 and make progress on a few other specific achievements. There is no achievement for doing every side-quests specifically, but it's just as easy to complete them all then investigate which ones aren't required for something else.
