Casper522, I don't know exactly, but once I defused 100 grenades, quit without saving (getting to checkpoint). Then I saw stats and it counted, but next day when I tried to do it, I opened stats and all my grenades(in last mission) didn't count. So I did it at once, without dying and got an achievement

worked great. if you go into the last boos fight and do this for a while then need to stop just beat him quick and go up the elevator. once you exit the elevator walk forward and you get a checkpoint. i quit here and still had all my breach progress. thanks again +1

I got the cheevo last nite and I believe stats only save if you quit out or complete the mission in single player. If you die, they do not save. As for multiplayer, the stats save if you quit >>after<< a checkpoint or if you complete the mission.

Maybe ten minutes is a little optimistic, but certainly the best way to grind this achievement out. Thanks! :)

Yeah, ten minutes for all 873 is ridiculous hyperbole, but you can get about 100 in 15 minutes. Still likely the fastest you could ever hope to get this achievement done.

As others have mentioned, dying and quitting do not save your progress. Finish the boss fight/game to save your defuse count.

It took me about 30 -40 minutes to get 500 doing this. I just made sure to keep the cover up and stay hidden as much as I could.

I tested this; at least for me if you defuse, say, 100 grenades and then die and restart from checkpoint those defuses are not counted.
So it's either all of them in one go OR you get a few hundred, finish the boss/game, redo the chapter, get a few hundred, etc...

There's a much quicker way to do this, takes about one hour to breach 873 grenades.
Make a private coop match on Expert in Scandinavia, use a sniper or the Kusanagi. Fight your way past first checkpoint. Shoot the riot shields through the wall with Dart Overlay, but don't kill the guys on top of containers. A container might pop some guys on the floor, kill them too. The trick is when you come out of the checkpoint door there will be some wooden crates on the right side, sit down with your back to these crates. The guys on top of the containers will throw grenades at you. It will be raining grenades, just breach the ones that lands in front of you, there's 4 guys throwing them constantly so just breach away.

Note that you don't really have to kill everyone at the beginning. Kill the first group - the ones you can see from the beginning staircase - and from there you can run directly to the checkpoint, assuming you have C2C equipped. Just have C2C ready and start running. When the APC comes out, keep running directly to the right of it; once you start taking damage, fire off C2C. Even on expert, it will keep you alive as you run past all of the enemies to the checkpoint room. Immediately hack the door, and the door behind you will close, cutting off the enemies you left behind.

For extra fun, equip your grenades before you start running, and throw them into the group of enemies as you run by. Only recommended if you have unlocked the perk that allows you to take no damage from your own explosions.

This cuts the run to the first checkpoint down to nearly nothing, and allows you to respawn those grenade-throwing enemies quickly if they aren't spamming you with grenades like they should.

Shout out to Mr Rodster for pointing this out to me. And, by the way, this achievement sucks. Who thinks crap like this is a good idea?

I can only seem to get one guy on the roof to spawn who throws grenades, the rest have those damn riot lances and don't throw anything!
How do you get more to spawn?

All i can say is that when i did it on expert there was 4 guys on top throwing grenades, i sat where they couldnt see me, with my back to the crates on the right side. They could not see me to shoot at me so they throwed grenades.

Worked like a charm. Even though I only managed to have 2 spawn to throw grenades, this method still made this dreaded achievement SO much more bearable. Less than an hour with just the two guys. You have my vote sir.

I'm with PHT on this, I tried this method 4 times and couldn't get a single grenade to be thrown. You must have had a very lucky spawn of enemies.

Enemy spawns are random on expert. No way to guarantee 4 grenade guys sadly.

Sounds like he watched my old phone video ;p Ive played 10+ days on Syndicate as my passion to help the community for this game. When going for this achievement/trophy its typically been just two guys shooting assault rifles that throw the grenades - the riotlance enemies do not. I had riotlance enemies show up later after I moved down this corridor more. Anyways - if only one guy is throwing grenades - run back into the checkpoint room and see if the other moves into position. You want both grenade throwing enemies on the bridge closest to you as you hide. Then they throw the grenades. I recommend killing Riotlance enemies but may be tricky if they stun you and kill you.

is this supposed to be done with multiple people? I cant even get past the first group of enemies on Hard. Am I missing something? I haven't played this game in years so maybe there is way to survive longer than 2 seconds. Maybe a button to push? Maybe a video would help because this just isn't working for me

this tells me how to get the achievement, but how do I get to this point in the mission when playing on expert solo?

This really is the fastest way. Took a few restarts to get two assult rifle guy and find the sweet spot behind the box but it was extremely quick. As for to how to get that point: C2C, Reboot, Sniper, Maxed out character. Shoot the enemies at the drop zone then start running, pop C2C and DART when leaving the last box before the tank, run either the left or right side of the tank, get in the checkpoint room and activate the console before the enemies can follow you and you are right where you need to be.

In this case, the lowest solution doesn't mean it's the worst. I got the achievement in half an hour with this method!! Try it!

Kill anyone in your way. Be cautious as you can face a mix of difficult enemies early on. Riotlance stun Police, laser coil troops on the right side containers, and for sure the Liquid Armor with a CQ11 shotgun that gets in your face. A Kusanagi ACR10 and C2C Pulse & Backfire apps are my preferred layout if you wish to try that (best load out).

This method is much easier, but it will take you slightly longer to get the achievement... Load up chapter 15 on easy and as soon as you drop out of the air vent, crouch behind the crate, turn 180 and face the propaganda poster.... Make sure you are in the corner between wall and crate... There will be 2 guys behind cover that won't approach you and they will continually throw grenades towards you.. They will throw the odd Molotov as well but you shouldn't get hit by them. Simply breach the grenades as they bounce off the wall.... Sometimes they might fall short, so just keep your eye on where they land....

If you are just getting bombarded with Molotov's and hardly any grenades, just restart checkpoint and try again. Took me 2 and a half hours to breach 873 grenades.... If you get bored and want to save, there is a checkpoint just past the turret and through the door up the stairs.....

I'll throw this one in:

Load up Single Player Chapter 15: Kris on Easy.

Spend the points on whatever increases your health and the duration of DART.

Make your way through a few enemies and get to the battle with Kris. Keep shooting Kris until his health is at the halfway mark. This will trigger a cutscene where he detonates all the EMP mines around the room permanently and then beats you with his gun. You must Breach/take his pistol.

From this point on, Kris will will run around the area and only throw grenades because he doesn't have a gun. He turns invisible, but he's pretty easy to spot. His usual pattern is to throw 2-3 EMP grenades, and if those successfully take out your DART system, another volley of 3 frag grenades.

The best strategy here is to keep relatively close to him while also keeping an open space behind you in which to back up when he tosses the EMP grenades. Keep in mind that you have to be able to see the grenade to Breach it. When close, he'll usually toss them at your feet, so you can hit RB and go into DART and while backing up, immediately press LB on all of the grenades in the cluster (you need to press and release LB with each grenade). If the EMP grenades take you out of DART, run away from wherever you're standing because 3 frags grenades are coming at you and you can't Breach them. Even on Easy, getting hit by all 3 will likely kill you.

The drawback is that while he sits in some spots for a little while, he never stays in one place for very long. So you still have to put in effort to move around to keep him maintained at the perfect distance.

It takes about an hour to do depending on how many grenades you've Breached up til now. This strategy is less stress than the other solutions suggesting soloing Co-op on Expert, taking down Merit's bodyguards or dealing with him and his gun shooting you constantly.

"Breaching" a grenade disarms it, so naturally you will have to wait for an enemy to hurl a grenade to you. Just aim at it and hold . Disarming a grenade is extremely fast, and sometimes you can finish breaching before it even hits the ground. After a grenade is tossed, you have around 5 seconds to disarm it and subsequently loot it for your own use. There are two bosses you can grind this on: Kris, and the final boss.

Kris (Ch. 15), when in the second stage, will begin to toss EMP grenades. If you take him to a sliver of health, he will throw three at a time. He will run and throw a set, and if you managed to not get EMP'd, he will walk a few feet and repeat. On easy mode, it's impossible to die, even if you mess up.

The final boss on Chapter 20 is the other boss you can grind this on. After you kill the twins, down final boss' health by a bar or two so he's dropped his minigun and just run around the area disarming the grenades he shoots out every so often. This is also recommended doing on easy mode.

Grenades can be breached by holding the L2.png button when prompted to do so. 873 breaches is a lot and you will only achieve a fraction of that in the Campaign or Co-Op modes. There are 2 ways to grind this:

Campaign: In Chapter 15 during the boss fight with Kris, all he ever does is throw a multitude of grenades at you. Replay the chapter on Easy difficulty, position yourself in the Kitchen area to the left, and let the grinding begin. Kris will typically throw 2-3 EMP Grenades at any time, followed by 3 Frag Grenades if you fail to breach the EMP Grenades when they go off. Over time, this method can be pretty annoying as EMP Grenades render you helpless if they do go off and it is time wasted waiting for the effects to wear off. I recommend obtaining the chip upgrade which reduces the amount of damage from explosions. (Credit to broodwars).

Co-Op: In Scandinavia, in the first open area where an APC with a turret appears, one of the soldiers is a grenade-happy fellow who will keep throwing grenades at you. You need to position yourself a certain distance from him. When you do, all the enemy soldier does is throw frag grenades one after the other in quick succession, allowing for easy breaching. You will also find more enemy soldiers with this behavior further on in the same map. I found this method to be quicker than the campaign method. (Credits to pZiuz).

Remember to progress to a checkpoint to have the game save your latest stats if you intend to stop grinding before unlocking the trophy. This stat can be tracked in the Main Menu > Extras > Player Statistics, next to "Grenades Breached".

Breaching a grenade means you can hack a live grenade and prevent it from exploding. Grenades breached in single-player and co-op both add up. It is possible to grind this trophy in the second half of the campaign's final boss fight, the boss will occasionally launch an artillery strike of grenades at you where you can breach at least 10 or more of them with each volley. Its best that you drag the battle out and keep your distance in order for the boss to launch his grenades while playing it on a low difficulty. The only tricky thing you might have to worry about though is keeping track of the grenades when they're being launched into the sky.
