How to unlock the First Rainbow Crown achievement in Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master! - Definitive Guide

To Earn a Rainbow crown you need a full combo of all Good ratings , no ok or bad.

First things first Calibrate your screen in the options. I used easy calibrate and my settings ended up being :

Adjust Music Note positions : +2

Adjust Music Note Recognition : -2

Then head to Game settings. Go to Configure level settings and change from standard to super simple. This stops almost all animations and makes it easier on your eyes when trying to perfect notes.

Next choose the easiest song and play on easy difficulty (Easiest song is called HOMURA from anime category)

You now have to hit 56/56 notes Good and not OK. This takes a little practice and timing.
Try time it that you push your button cn_A just after the red note has entered the inner circle. For the large notes time it that the face is dead center of the inner circle when pressing buttons cn_A and cn_X together. Practice , Practice , Practice. You will get it done.

Here is a video of my successful run :

+1 for Always With Me. I got it first try with this song (disclaimer: I've played a lot of rhythm games in the past). I think it's easier because the rhythm doesn't change throughout the whole song.
Also I didn't change any speed settings or calibration, since mine was already calibrated well for me and my TV.

Update: My best tips are:
1. The higher you can set the speed, the easier it is to hit the notes at the perfect time. You'll have a wider margin of error on the screen. If the notes are moving slow, the margin of error will be a very small horizontal distance. Just don't set it so fast that you don't have time to react once a note appears.

2. Take breaks. This one has the potential to be very frustrating and rage-inducing, which will work against you. Just try a couple times and play some other songs til another day. If you're going for the 100%, it's going to take you a MINIMUM of 30 days anyway, so no rush. Play more, get more experience, and try this again.

After completing every base song + a DLC pack on Easy, Medium, Hard, and some Expert, I'm now able to get rainbow crowns pretty often (on the easiest songs on Easy mode). (And I'm still 10,000 coins away from the 87,600 achievement. So getting the 100% could potentially take quite a bit longer than 30 days, ESPECIALLY if you don't purchase any DLC packs)

Just got it and thought I'd add something that seemed to work for me, but also try using the magnifier to zoom in on the game with RT then position the magnifier with the right stick to show only the two circles where you hit notes and leave some space on the right to see upcoming notes.

If you are stuck and want to try a different song I’d suggest “Into the night” in the pop category! It’s 76 notes and has a decent pace. It took me about 15 tries

I used the spirited away song, but your tip for simple calibration allowed me to change to the middle note setting, which made the good notes come easier, and got it first try.

I used the song Homura to get this achievement, but my settings were 0 position and -2 for recognition 1.1 speed and I had Spartan turned on so if I hit an ok, I can skip the next note and it'll restart the song me, which made it simple for me.

You won't get penalized if you keep hitting the drum on the beat. For the music nerds out there (like me laugh) the song is in 4/4 or 8/8. After I hit the first 4 notes of the song, I started going to the beat by every 1/8 of the beat which actually helped me out a lot.

This took me way too long to get this maybe 25-30 tries (lost count laugh) Like Cemetery Girls I failed on the last note and the second to the last note at least twice.

Used 'Always with Me' as the song but your tip on the calibration was fantastic. Have been struggling for a while, always missing 1/2 notes. With your tip I got it first time. Thanks!

I used Homura with your calibration settings. Jumping between 2.5 and 3x speed I found 2.5 a sweet spot. I think the biggest help is looking at when you mess up, and if it's consistently because you're either too slow or fast when hitting notes. I was usually too fast and corrected. Messed up on the last note once, haha, was pretty annoyed but with a bit more attempts I got it.

Feeling the beat was also a big help. I also used the drumkit instrument as I felt it fit the songs better.

You get a Rainbow Crown by getting all Goods in a song.
The easiest song for me was HOMURA Easy in the Anime category.

Curiously what is note calibration? I have tried for a while but the timing still feels off. My first time playing Taiko but played a tons of Project Diva and Osu before.

Can confirm, something is very strange with the timing. I was doing way worse after calibrating, and there are times where I know for certain I've hit on beat but just get an OK.

I've DDR'd with a controller in the past and never had this issue before. Is the timing super strict or something?

Wanted to add you can change the note speed in case the slow timing throws you off like it did me, just hit the start button before choosing difficulty, personally 2.0 was perfect for me.

Being too slow doesn’t help, I got it using the monogatari ending song(supercell).

I think I was struggling so much because the notes are so slow in Homura. I played "MikuMiku Ni Shiteageru [Shiteyan-Yo]" from the vocaloid section and got the rainbow crown on my 1st try clap

I recommend turning up the speed on Homura to at least 2.5x. Does not affect the rhythm but spaces the notes more and makes it a bit easier to pick up the timing window visually. Little bit frustrating but very achievable with a bit of practice.

I got it on mikumiku, like Android Arale mentioned. Took a few tries, mainly due to simple, stupid timing mistakes. No room for error with this achievement

Another option is "only my railgun" on easy: I unlocked the achievement on that song, I clicked with the rhythm pretty well without changing options.

I got this one on CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LAin Easy. I almost got it on Medium first, so this may be the easiest song as it has the right speed (not too slow) unlike HOMURA.

I managed to earn this with "only my railgun" on easy with 1.5 speed. It took a few tries though.

By complete accident, I managed to get a Donderful FC (the rainbow crown) on the Theme of Ryu on Normal in a ranked match, but didn't get the cheevo as you can't earn crowns online. Had to go back to solo mode and FC it again. Just something to keep in mind

"Into the Night" did it for me, after days of struggling on "Homura".

20 more notes, but faster pace keeps you on beat.

another thing to point out is on the big notes you dont have to hit double buttons for it to count a single button like the small note will still count as a good

Just achieved it on MIKUMIKU Ni Shiteageru. I found this one easier because it’s got a much clearer beat than Homura. But that might just be me. I was able to nod my head and fall in with the beat pretty easy, and everything is on beat unlike Homura.

Still, Homura is absolutely one of the easiest songs to do this on.

Gonna say Into The Night is the easy answer, personally. Got the rainbow crown on easy and normal on sight read. Seems to be one of the best beat synced songs in the game.

There's a purchasable song called Choco Chiptune. (NAMCO Original) that's a little faster than most. Its downside is that it's 137 notes. But is also extremely easy and follows the beat nicely. It would be 3rd on my own list for ease of donder crowning. But Blue Bird still trumps for me.

Hated by Life on Easy and Normal seems to be a contender too. Playing it on 1.5x, you can almost do it by playing straight quarter notes the whole song.

I found Inferno on Easy in the anime section to be the easiest. It's a bit fast but it's very straightforward. I found using A, down on the d-pad and LT/RT to work best for hitting reds and blues

Homura on 2x speed for me too, missed 12 notes on 1x speed because my brain just couldn't cope with how slow it was, but only took a few attempts once I upped the speed

I find the faster songs on easy to be easier to rainbow than the slower ones. Homura was a real pain as it was just too slow for me.

I finally got this with Hare Hare Yukai on Easy. It's a short song (about 1:30), the tempo isn't too slow or fast, and most of the notes are on downbeats (counting 1, 2, 3, 4)

@SwordofWhedon yes I noticed this. The game seems to punish you more for being slightly late than slightly early.

A weird system but OK...

I also noticed that harder difficulties are pretty much impossible to play with a controller. I'm going to have to get a drum...

I tried most suggestions but found Blue Bird in the Pop category the easiest due to speed allowing for easy Goods and no big breaks or odd timing. Quite obvious beat.

Hated by Life in VOCALOID I got 79/80 Good on first easy attempt. So might be another one. It's a little faster than most suggestions (which, for me, makes Good easier to time) so doesn't feel like a long song.

Also, you don't have to worry about the drum roll icons or the inflatable notes. So just focus on your red and blues.

I would like to add my guide for this one as this is really the only one that requires "skill" to complete for the 1000G on this game.

IMHO, "Always With Me" from "Spirited Away" in the Anime category is easiest for this. On easy difficulty, this song has no blue notes, so you can keep your finger on just A or X button. The song is not too fast but not too slow either. Homura has lower amount of notes but is a very slow song and timing can be tough to master on a slow song.

To save time for money/song grind later, you may want to put "Special - Perfect" so that if you miss a note, the song is failed immediately and you get +1 for songs and +10 for coins.

Here is my play where I get two OKs (I wanted to record rainbow crown run but video crapped out on me) which can hopefully give you good idea on timing.

Good luck!

I also used this song. I recommend using 2x speed for this song as it's a reasonable speed for it and I found the faster speeds tend to be a little more forgiving on the note detection for "Good" notes.

Now if you're like me, you found the timing on this game to be atrocious. I tried a bunch of different songs and even went to PC because the input delay is better there. It didn't work.

The song that Sangriaz suggested "Always with me" is a perfect song for this achievement. If you were to write this out on music paper, every time you have to hit the drum... it will fall on a quarter note. You don't get punished for pressing the red drum button (for me it was cn_A) when there's no note there.

Knowing these two things, what I did is instead of tapping my foot to this song, I just kept pressing cn_A every quarter note. Keeping the beat with the cn_A button helped me a lot. You will have to make slight adjustments because odds are you won't be exact in beat with the song but if you keep the rhythm, you'll be hitting the drum as the note is in the circle already.

Note it did still take me a couple tries this way but I thought I'd share a different way of going about this achievement for those who have tried everything.

I played HOMURA on 2.5x speed on easy. For some reason the speed boost made it easier to get them all perfect. Thought that may help someone else if you're having trouble and havent tried this yet.

The easiest method is the difficulty setting for every song and the star level. The key is determining what songs will require the fewest number of notes to get all good and earn the rainbow crown, and also adjusting the speed settings to suit your style of play. For me I discovered Always With Me had just 76 notes. Got all good in the playthrough on Easy, no adjustments in speed necessary. Easily the most challenging achievement of the game, but all the more rewarding at the same time.

Update: I have since also earned the Rainbow on Always With Me on Normal. Not even five minutes after this initial post.
