This reward is all about finding gold, and a lot of it, and actually spending it.
Playing as the Leprechaun or the Alchemist will help since those characters have easy access to money. Visiting the Highlands and turning trinkets into gold is another option.
Shops, the Castle, healers, markets, and the City are places where you can spend money quickly. With a little planning, you should have no problem "outspending" the AI opponents.
Playing as a PvP-oriented character would be another option. Attack the other characters and steal their gold instead of picking their equipment or hurting them.
