The Mines and the Crypt are spaces in the Inner Region that are essentially skills checks preventing you from accessing the Crown of Command. The Crypt is a test of strength, while the Mines are a test of craft.
The Dwarf has a special ability allowing him to roll 2 dices instead of 3 in the Mines. You will need to access the Mines through the Middle Region and then the Portal of Power. Reaching the space is enough to unlock the achievement.
