How to unlock the Go for the Gold achievement in Taptiles - Definitive Guide

As of January 2015, the parameters have changed. A gold badge is awarded during the month for obtaining 12,000 coins through Daily Challenges, and there are five challenges per day, making gold much easier. Challenges are now ranked by difficulty; easy is worth 100 coins, medium is worth 150, hard is worth 200, and expert is worth 300. For this achievement, you must get 8 gold badges, or one per month.

The bonus is that while it is a Daily Challenge, you are available to go back to any previous day that month to play previous challenges, so if you miss a day it isn't the end of the world. This is important, because unless you're an expert and can beat every Daily Challenge with ease, a gold medal all but requires every challenge to be played.

There are a number of challenges you can let slide and miss out on the bonus 150 coins. Keep this in mind when going up against tough challenges. For Color Charge and Mix and Match, it tells you how many puzzles to solve in how much time. Color Charge is the easiest of the bunch, but can still get up to 14 or 15 puzzles in 3:30. Not impossible, but keeps you on your toes. Mix and Match is typically shorter, but I've run into the occasional puzzle where it throws one huge puzzle you are not expected to keep your speedchain through, followed by a few easier puzzles; however, it has not done that since February or March.

For Sprint Match, play it a few times before giving up on it. It tends to cycle through similar patterns, so restarting a few times can sometimes help. Also, don't give up as soon as you drop your chain! It tends to be possible to rebuild the chain, even if they only give 1:30. Tap Tower varies the most, but on Easy or Medium, if you can maintain control early on and have to wait for the puzzle to scroll up, the rest of it is a cakewalk. Hard can scroll quickly and overwhelm, so this will likely take a few tries. Unfortunately, I have no advice for Expert with a mouse. For those with a touch screen, tmeerbott has this to say:

"For the longest time I couldn't even come close on the hard and expert Tap Tower but I tried something new this weekend and cleared every one. I start off trying to make as many matches as I can as fast as I can. When the tower reaches about half way up the screen (I am using a Surface RT), I use multiple fingers on both hands and randomly tap the screen as fast as possible. This usually allowed me to clear most of the visible tiles is a very short time period. Then I just repeat these steps until the challenge is complete."

The bonus for completing all challenges for a day is necessary to score high enough. Rather than a list of how many challenges you'd have to beat and play, with the new scoring system, it becomes easier to look at it as a number of coins per week as opposed to day.

Aim for 3,000 coins per week. This will give you a good idea for when to skip challenges; for example, if Week 2 is about to end, you have 6,500 coins and there's an Expert challenge you just can't beat? Just let it go and move on, you're over the success threshold. The other bonus is that excluding February, you still have an extra 2-3 days to make up lost ground if you find yourself just shy after Week 4.

That is correct, yes. I'll be able to tell tomorrow for certain, but I'm fairly sure there's no coin carryover in case you go over 10,000.

So does it mean that you have to have a gold badge for 8 month for this achievement?

8 months of playing for a mere 10g? That is mental.

Skrypek - you will also be well on your way to picking up a further 20GS for the silver and bronze. In six and a half months this achievement is going to be worth a lot more than 10TA.

Bah, and my pattern seemed to hold well enough; thanks for pointing that out. Also, in six and a half months, it'll still be worth 10GS, which is what he pointed out.

and you can't go back to previous months. So everyone that starts this game have to be playing the game for a year to get them all. I am one month behind, never got anything for October. I got the gold for November a couple of days ago. Now I am just playing for the marathon achievement.

I just had this game freeze on me after a daily challenge when it was giving me my coins (I was in the 8k range, so nearly at gold), so I backed out to the desktop, then back into the game. It started up just fine, but when I went back into the daily challenges, the calendar still had my count for each day (2/3, 3/3, etc), but each individual day, when clicked on, showed no completions, and my coins had reset back to 0. I still have my bronze and silver medal, but not sure I want to grind out that many coins again in 2 days to get my gold for November...

This means the first possible day for people to get this is the 23rd of may 2013. If you got gold in october, for me it's june.

no it has changed to 100 for Easy, 150 for Medium and still a 150 for completeing them all. Not sure what hard gives? 200? So today the 1st of april there wherer 2 easy and one medium challange 100*2 + 150 + 150 = 500 instead of the previous 450 every day. so you will get more points now. making it easier to get these achivements. which kind of screwup the fixed day when you can get enough points for a medal, it depend on how the difficulty challenges are spread over the month. most likely a few days earlier now.

The Biodreamer I think it will be a few days later now that you need 12,000 coins for a gold badge, but like you say it is going to be difficult to predict.

Well, that sucks. I'll state the obvious and say at the very least they're going to have Hard challenges, most likely the short but intense Tap Towers, for example. I'll update the solution for the time being, but there won't be anything substantial for another week or so as I keep playing to work out some new figures.

I hadn't notice the increase to 12000, so yeah it will probably be one day later. (24th) if they keep the current easy challange approach. but might endup the same if they have hard challanges more frequently. each month has been easier then the last, and it's not only because I got better at it.

but in the other hand it will be easier to spot which days to bother with if you make the approach to play alot in the end of the month instead of doing it day by day or week by week. now you don't need to attempt a challenge to know what difficulty range it's on. so you simply skip trying on the hard challanges that you usually endup failing at.

If they give us more than 10 hard challenges in a month, then getting a gold badge is going to require completing some of these hard challenges (which may be easier if using a Win8 tablet). It may be worth only doing enough to get a silver badge and then waiting to near the end of the month to see how many hard challenges there are. Then get enough of them done (ie leaving around 10) before wasting time on the easy and medium challenges if they are going to leave you with less than 12,000 coins on the last day of the month. Since you will be playing this game for 12 months, then it is okay to miss out the gold badge on 4 of those months (luckily I only need to get 3 gold badges in the next 7 months).

if they keep the track record the hard will not appear until 20th-ish or so. yawn i will get the bronze tomorrow. this is to easy. i would atleast expect more medium challanges. one day earlier then usuall. besides you can usually manage hard games unless they are complex speed chain or fat tap towers. I wonder how many got medals in October, it was released so late in that month and most probably played the main game. Bronze is likely to be out there but Gold? Especially since I had serious problem with windows 8 during those early initial days. and I expect i was not alone. I am using my mouse and laptop and only use the touchpad when i can't make it with mouse. which only happened twice and one of them i failed even with touchpad. (complex fat tap tower)

We got the first hard daily challenge today (5th April) and I can confirm it is worth 200 coins. It is a Sprint Match 75 and not that hard.

While I personally think that's a great idea, I'm reluctant to actually put it in the solution due to the touch screen. There's quite a few people playing with a mouse (I started as one myself) and saying there's an easy way so long as they don't mind paying for a new tablet doesn't make for a good solution, in my mind.

Nevertheless, I'll have to give that one a shot myself; I wouldn't think that would work very well, but I'm willing to be wrong here! EDIT: That was the most foolish and functionally stupid strategies I've ever used, which made it all the more hilarious that it actually worked perfectly.

I have beaten Expert tap towers with a mouse, sometimes even on the first attempt so, you do not need touch to beat any daily challange, it just a tad harder. unless you want to be the first person poping the achivement, it won't matter if you skip almost all expert/hard challenges. but you do attack it diagonally, ie not only the top row but you work on the whole tower so it thicker in the bottom then in the top. and don't bother rotating it will only interrupt your flow. mouse over work to se the symbol of the blocks in the back.

Not mentioned anywhere, but it's only 11,000 for the month of May. So who knows what the future months will bring.

Although some lucky people will start earning this in just another week and a half or so.

I used the same technique tmeerbott used when I got my hands on an eval HP ElitePad 900 and got High Five on my very first game and picked up Gemologist on my second attempt. I looked like Commander Data, with the speed my fingers were moving. Random taping on a multi-touch screen almost clears most puzzles, then you just match up what is left.

See my solution under "Go For the Bronze." Your system clock can be changed to a previous month in order to access additional challenges and medals and therefore achieve multiple golds, silvers, and bronzes in a single month.

Also, strive to accomplish all of a day's challenges, as this will give you a bonus 150 coins. This means for every 6 days (give or take) of challenges you've completed, you have essentially received a 7th day's worth of coins as a bonus. You are leaving free coins on the table by completing anything less than all of the challenges for a day.
