How to unlock the Marathon achievement in Taptiles - Definitive Guide

This achievement is slightly misleading. It does say every day over the course of one month, HOWEVER, they can't be 31 days in a row from the calendar, on the same day.

For example, if it's the last day of the month (for example, the 31st), and you go into the calendar and do a challenge on the 31st, for one of the daily challenges for each day of the month, the achievement won't pop.

What you need to do, is for 31 days running (note that it's 31 days running, NOT every day in a single month. So, for example, you could do a daily challenge every day from 10th January to 9th February, which is a total of 31 days, and the achievement would unlock.

Please note, that you do NOT need to do all three challenges on each of the days of a month for the achievement to pop, you only need to do a minimum of one per day, although I do recommend that you attempt to do so, as it will help towards the monthly bronze, silver, and gold medals/badges.

I can confirm that you CANNOT get the achievement if you miss a day, and go back and do the challenge for the missed day via the calendar on any following day. It HAS TO BE a same-day challenge every day.

Also, please note, that you should not do challenges of the day from the calendar (i.e. Clicking on the Calendar, and then clicking on the day that you're currently on). For some reason, this has a tendancy to lose people their current coin and challenge-complete data. To make sure they count, before doing any of the day's challenges, restart the game, click on "Daily Challenges", and do them from the page that comes up. DO NOT go to the calendar to do them.

You may want to note that people need to restart the game when the new day comes and enter the daily challenge from the main menu, not by accessing the calendar. Its not necessarily clear on that aspect.

Calendar is still messed up in November. On Nov 1, beat 2 challenges without accessing calendar, had 200 coins. Went back later after restarting, I still saw 2 ribbons. Beat the 3rd challenge. I saw 3 ribbons, but had only 250 coins. After accessing the calendar, I have no ribbons and still only 250 coins. The calendar shows 0/3 on Nov 1 and 3/3 on Nov 31st. Yes, the 31st of November. With these kinds of glitches, it may be very difficult to get this achievement.

That does sound weird. I can confirm that even if it doesn't show your ribbons on the day screen it still counts, as I unlocked the 5 day achievement after completed Nov 2nd and had no ribbons showing for Nov 1st. However my coins do show the correct amount for all 6 wins and my calendar is correct.

Calendar may be fixed now. I went back last night (Nov 1) and besides having 250 coins, everything looked like I hadn't played at all that day. I won Color Charge and kept the 100 coins. The Tap Tower had changed to something harder, so someone must have made an adjustment. This morning, I still had my 350 coins and was able to complete all 3 challenges. So far, I still have my 800 coins and the calendar shows 1/3 for Nov 1, 3/3 for Nov 2.

Hope the calendar is fixed in other games as well. I haven't played Minesweeper or Solitaire since completing the achievements. I didn't realize they had a similar challenge system.

Interesting idea, Rottler. Unfortunately, it appears they all have separate coin totals. I'd prefer the more laid back challenges of Solitaire and Minesweeper if I could use them.

After playing November 1st through 5th and getting the 5 days in a row achievement, when I returned today the calendar now show 0/3 on all prior daya and took away my coins. No idea what is up, but I'm done with this game...

Ok, cool. So everyone knows. I was playing from the start of this month, every day. Today i turn on the game and what i see? My progress is empty, cleared, no coins, no won challenges(only this month, gold/silver/bronze badges from last month are still there). I don't know what happend, I wasn't cheating(challenges are too easy to cheat on them). Anyone have any idea what may happened?

A less ambiguous description would have been "Win a Daily Challenge 30 days in a row", similar to the one for

I think this glitched for more, probably because I'm playing it in two computers. Can someone confirm if it is possible to unlock the achievement playing in different computers throught the 30 days?

Has to be same computer, because that's where your dates-of-play is stored.

Nope, at least the information of the calendar is stored in the server, I can see them on both computers. What I dont know is that for this achievement it uses server-side information or local one, for the 5 days in a row, I can guarantee that it uses the server-sided info, because I got it on a computer where I was playing for the first time.

I can confirm it only has to be one challenge of the three. I played most of the times one but sometimes 2 or 3 challenges. I started on October 25th and got it today.

How is it possible that people unlock it in the middle of a month?

By Zetenge on 26 Nov 2012 18:42
@zetenge Because, as I stated in the solution, you don't have to get it with every day of a month, just 31 days in a row. So it could be, for example, 13th march to 13th april.

I should have gotten this today, but did not. I think I know what went wrong. On the evening of Nov 27, I set my timezone ahead so I could play Nov 28. (I was anxious to finish my gold medal.) I got 3/3, kept the 450 coins, but the calendar shows 0/3. Since I already had the ribbons, I couldn't redo the challenges for credit. In short: don't mess with your clock or timezone. Hopefully I'll get this on Dec 28.

I lost all previous coins and medals. I'm playing on a Surface, and it wasn't always updating the date on the game. I used Task manager to close the game and when I reloaded it, it had all gone. However a lot of the days I had already played were showing as completed. I now make a point of turning off my Surface completely every night, rather than just leaving it on. So far so good.
I started playing it on the 5th of Dec, so it could unlock in the next day or two, will let you all know.

I played a challenge every day of the month with no achievement on the last day. I changed the date on a Win 10 machine to the last day of the prior month and completed a challenge. Closed the app. Change date to the last date of the current month. Did 1 challenge and it popped.

I can confirm that @BegFourMercy's trick works. However, the achievement popped for in the middle of the final challenge instead of after it.

As an addendum, this strategy does not affect your coin count for the month you actually made an effort in. At least it didn't for me.

By MathGuy42 on 23 Dec 2012 19:32
I just got this, using two different computers. As I stated above, Nov 28 gltiched on me, so according to the calendar, I did at least one challenge per day for Nov 29-Dec 29, 31 days. I played on the day themselves, as directed in the solution.

However, I did use one computer until Dec 7, and then another after that. So perhaps the recent update fixed the need to use just one computer.

@Magnetic, As I state in the solution, you don't have to do it for every day of a whole month. You just have to do it for the equivalent of a whole month's days.

Yeah, pretty bad move on my part. :) Should have been more patient.

Should have mentioned there's a chance the problem stemmed from reinstalling Windows 8. My Developer Preview was about to run out. But I think it's more likely I screwed things up from the timezone change.

Actually I can say for sure that doing a new windows install will do it. I reinstalled on Oct 28th after getting the 5 days and did not get the month until Nov 28th.

I am creating this solution to simplify what “TSG Dawggie” originally posted in his solution.

1.) To get this achievement you have to complete at least 1 daily challenge for between 28 to 31 consecutive days. The number of days required depends on the number of days in the month you will complete this achievement. So if you start in the middle of January that is a 31 day long and finish in February that is 28 to 29 days long, you only have to complete 28 to 29 consecutive days.

2.) You can start in one month and finish in the following month.

3.) If you miss a day you simply have to start over. You cannot go into the calendar to replay any of the 3 daily challenges for a given day if you missed a day.

To avoid most problems/glitches always…

1.) Make sure you let your Xbox Live profile log in before clicking anything in the game.

2.) Open a challenge for the current day from the challenges page and not the calendar.

3.) Always back all the way to the games main menu when you have completed a challenge.

4.) Completely close Taptiles when you're done playing by returning to Start and opening the left side menu/task menu and closing Taptiles.

5.) Saving to the cloud if prompted with a local or cloud save option is suggested.

I'm going to have to guess that "1 Month" is defined as "4 Weeks", since I just got it today after 28 days. Could be due to February (I doubt that, since my streak didn't start in February), or could be due to a recent update.

It's a dumb achievement. So if you start on the 5th January, you will get it on the 1st February, but if you start on the 5th February you won't get it until 7th March. They should have just made it that if you start on the 5th you will get it on the 4th.

Contrary to popular belief, it is actually possible to get this without having to play 31 consecutive days. This basically involves the same method as Calendar Man's Achievement in Batman: Arkham City, if you're familiar with it.

Before you give me a Negative Vote, comment and tell me what the issue is and I'll see if I can help you out. Also, I apologize in advance if this guide is tricky to understand. Leave me a comment or suggestion and I'll attempt to go into better detail.

REQUIREMENTS:
In order to do this you will have to start playing on the 1st of a 31 day month:
~January
~March
~May
~July
~August
~October
~December
OR
You must have played enough consecutive days from the previous month going into the next. So, for example, if you play the last 5 days of January, you're able to play the first 26 days of February for a total of 31 consecutive days.

HOW TO:
Okay, so if you've got the requirements down, the process is very simple. Play your daily challenge for the current day of the month. After winning at least one challenge, wait until it confirms your victory, and then close the game out.

Now go into your Date/Time Settings and change the date of your computer to the next day. Open up your game again and you should notice that the Daily Challenge date has changed as well. Open the Daily Challenges up and, again, play at least one, wait until victory is confirmed, and then close out your game again.

Rinse and repeat this process until you have completed 31 "consecutive" days. Now close out your game one last time, change the date back to the current day and open up Taptiles one last time. After signing in the "Marathon" Achievement should pop.

Keep in mind, this is technically boosting for the Achievement but it allows those of you who are having a hard time playing for a month straight to get a measly 10 Gamerscore, which in my opinion is absolutely ridiculous.

ISSUES:

1. One thing I've noticed while doing this is that it eventually tells you that the game cannot connect to Xbox Live. Keep in mind you must SIGN IN every day, so if you notice that it cannot connect, do the following:

a. Open up your game and allow it to sign in.
b. If it does not work, minimize the game, open up your Date/Time Settings again and switch to the current date.
c. Go back into your game and hit sign-in (the Daily Challenges date should still read the day you're on, not the current date).
d. Once you are signed in, minimize the game once more.
e. Change the date back to the day you were on when it wouldn't allow you to sign in.
f. Maximize Taptiles and select Daily Challenges.
g. You should now be signed in and back on track.

2. Now, the reasoning for why you must start on the 1st day of a 31 day month, is that it will fail to read the Daily Challenges data for next month if you change your System Date on your computer. So you could play, for example, all of February (28 days) but if you try and change your date to March 1st and then load up Daily Challenges, it will refuse and tell you that they cannot be accessed. I've tried to solve this but so far I have found nothing. If anyone solves this, comment and let me know.

Wouldn't that be fixed if you just changed the date to some month in the past? I tried it earlier today (july 6th), and it let me do the challenge from june 1st and so on (after changing date to june 1st ofc).

I'm not sure anymore. The Daily challenges work a bit differently from when I first wrote this. As far as I can remember, I believe you can change the date to previous months provided that you have downloaded the daily challenge data for that month previously. For example, I can only go back so many months before an error pops up because I never had that Daily Challenge data to begin with.

I just tried changing the date and it seems to work, but, unfortunately, it doesn't work for previous days.
What I mean is that I started playing on March 30 until April 1; yesterday I forgot to play and today I wanted to change the date back to April 2 in order to get the yesterday challenge but on the game the date was still April 3.
Changing the date forward (tried with April 4) indeed works! wink

Sorry to hear you're having issues with it. It wouldn't be too far fetched for it to be patched seeing as how I wrote this guide over 3 years ago. However, you can still do the date trick on their newest games so it could just be you're having bad luck with it. :/

If not too much trouble, try setting your date back to August 1st and doing the date trick for the whole month one last time. If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to track the achievement in-game in the achievement list.

THX to brydgesr he found a glitchi solution for this Achievement.

This works for all those Marathon achievements like

Microsoft Minesweeper (Windows 8)Wins At Your BackThe Wins At Your Back achievement in Microsoft Minesweeper (Windows 8) worth 47 pointsLog in each day of an entire month and complete at least one Daily Challenge.

Microsoft Solitaire Collection (Windows)MarathonThe Marathon achievement in Microsoft Solitaire Collection (Windows) worth 62 pointsCome back each day of an entire month and complete at least one Daily Challenge

Microsoft Sudoku (Windows)MarathonThe Marathon achievement in Microsoft Sudoku (Windows) worth 33 pointsLog in each day of an entire month and complete at least one Daily Challenge

1. Set the Windows-Clock on the 1. of an month but an earlier month (like January wen its February or March wen its April)

2. Sign Out of your Windows Microsoft Profile an sign back in

3. Play the daily challenge of the 1st of the month.

4. Push STRG+ALT+DEL go to you Task Manager and kill the game tasks

5. Change the System Date to the 2nd of the month then repeat the steps 2. - 5. from the 1st of the month to the last day of the month.

Make sure wen you start the game that in the top corner you be signed in to Xbox live and after the last day of the month the chevo should pop.

You only need to finished and least ONE DAILY Challenge

in my run i did not look if i was signed in correctly so i get glitched wile i'm glitching and i need some few more days to get the Achievement. Be sure that your Gamertag is shown on the top right.

This works with all Marathon in the same way and you can do them all together. I do this for Taptiles, Sudoku, Solitair and Minesweeper at the same time.

Your achievement get the time stamp from your last daily challenge you finished!

If you have questions use the comments.
