Seems some of the same tricks that work for the other games don't work for this one.
You can choose level select, but it seems if you go to the options screen IN the game it won't load the level you want, so no putting it on Easy or increasing lives to 10 if you also want level select.
As you have probably also found out, continues in this game knock you to the start of the stage.
What I found that works, using the "enhancements" menu choose the last level.
Use the rewind function. Shredder has 3 attacks, fire on the ground, don't try to get in close when he does this one. Shooting a laser thing diagonally and a fireball straight, try get in RIGHT after he does this and hack away.
