How to unlock the Tekken Black Belt achievement in TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 - Definitive Guide
In order to reach first dan you must go from beginner to 9th Kyuu and then make your way down from 9th to first Kyuu. This will be your promotion just before first dan. These ranks are often a win per promotion if you are within the right parameters mentioned above. You don't lose rank while working towards this, though you may in the later ranks.
As the achievement says this must be done in ranked matches, and you must win even if you rank up to first dan via a loss. I personally lost my match in which I ranked up, and had to keep playing and win to pop my achievement. Not totallysure why, but just an extra tip. Playing it out legit may be an easy alternative as boosting would be extremely difficult given the matchmaking. Happy hunting.
So you can either do it with a boosting partner or do it alone with 2 consoles. Since the game is backwards compatible, if you have a 360 and a One, only one Gold account is required! That's what I did:)
To do this, the easiest way is to set up the search with these parameters:
- No restriction on the connection level
- Restriction of +/- 2 levels of fighting level (the kyu/dan level)
The most important thing then is to start with characters that you have never used before or that have an equivalent level, so that they can find each other when searching for opponents.
Once in the waiting room, there is a good chance that matchmaking will find your other console (or your boosting partner). You can check this because the game displays a popup to validate or not the challenger. If it appears only on one side, it is not the right opponent, refuse with (it's time based, be quick)
When you are in match against the other console, simply make 1 victory out of 2 so that the 2 characters are promoted alternately and are never more than 2 levels apart.
It took me about 20 matches (10 wins on each side) to get to 1st dan and unlock the achievement
(If you find yourself against another opponent, it happened to me, lose the game to avoid a rank difference with the other console/the boosting partner).
Choose ranking match from the Online Mode menu. Continue playing with the same character/s until you reach 1st Dan. You don't need to win in order to reach 1st Dan, you'll promote by losing as well. This should take 10-25 matches depending on how much you win. This cannot be boosted.
NOTE: Some people have reported not receiving the trophy immediately after reaching 1st Dan, and that they have to play another ranking match online with the 1st Dan character/s to earn it.
To get to 1st dan in online mode you must be doing ranked matches. If you get to 1st dan from battle points, meaning you lost a couple of times along the way or you lost on your promotion match you will still have the title of 1st dan but not the achievement itself. For the achievement to unlock if you are 1st dan or beyond requires you to simply win a match.
Another thing to note is that in your ranked match options you typically only want to face people three ranks above or below you. When you click on Ranked Match change your rank limits to either a yellow or green 3 to be safe.
Personally, I had 9 W / 11 L when I got to 1st dan in online mode.
